The 23-year-old striker spent time on loan with the Minstermen’s League Two rivals Mansfield this season, scoring seven goals for the Stags, having been contracted with Crewe at the time.

Oliver was released by the Alex last week and will now join up with manager Russ Wilcox at York, who finished 18th.

The signing was confirmed via a club statement, which added: “York City would like to welcome Vadaine to the Club and look forward to his contribution over the next two years.”

Former Sheffield Wednesday forward Oliver signed for Crewe in 2013 but scored just three goals in 16 league starts for the club.
