Your Says of the Day: Hughes the right man for Man Utd

Mark Hughes: Stoke City boss linked with Everton job

Also, Kevin Wimmer is the ideal replacement for the injured Jan Vertonghen at Spurs, Joe Allen’s incredible rise at Liverpool and why Newcastle missed out on signing Charlie Austin.

If you have anything to add on any subject, you know what to do – post on the Your Say forum now.

Hughes for Manchester United return?

Domestically Hughes is probably the only realistic candidate. He is ex Utd, has managed at a reasonably decent level and has experience with dealing and coaching quality players. The issue is that it would clearly be another gamble. Simeone would be a good choice but he really speaks zero English. The language barrier can go either way. Like G Nev and Pepe Mel or Pochettino. Either way there’d be no guarantee it would be a success. I just cannot work out why they are sticking with LvG. It even seems he himself has given up on the job. The only logical reason he is staying is because they must feel they have someone who can come in this summer and turn the club around. Otherwise why give up on CL qualification and the income it generates by sticking with the current set up?

Wimmer the man to replace injured Jan

Obviously super Jan Vertonghen is going to be a huge loss to us but I think Wimmer can do the job, I think he has been impressive when playing. Jan will be a huge loss though because he is a leader on field and also makes some fantastic runs through the middle almost like a midfielder. All the best to Jan and may he make a speedy recovery.

Teixeira or bust for Liverpool

This saga is getting boring now. For a while now, there seems to be a transfer saga involving Liverpool. First it was Suarez, then Sanchez, then Sterling, now it’s Texieira. I just wish it would get sorted one way or the other. It seems we’ve put all our eggs in one basket on this one,and if we don’t get the deal done,we will be left with no time to look for alternatives. I’d like to say I’m confident we will meet the asking price, but who knows with FSG and Ayre doing the negotiating?

Allen impressive for Reds

I’m not a massive fan of Allen but he’s has been playing very well lately scoring several important goals. Henderson has been playing with an injury, Can hasn’t been great so I would give Allen a start v Leicester this weekend. They’re not a very physically imposing side so may suit him. Perhaps bring Can or Henderson back for the FA cup match midweek. Think Lovren needs to start at the weekend too.

Bale scared off by Man Utd

Sometimes when you read certain articles in the media, you just know that the journalist has just made something up to sell a newspaper or as a clickbait on websites.
For some time now there have been ongoing rumors about Gareth Bale joining Man Utd. Never have I seen any quotes from Bale himself or anybody at Utd confirming this interest. Now some writer at the Independent has fabricated a news story on Bale being scared off joining Utd due to the turmoil at the club at the moment.
It is of course true that Utd are in a bit of a bother at the moment, but they are still fifth in the league and will for sure get a new manager next season at the latest. Gareth Bale of course plays for Real Madrid who has a soap-opera like history and in the relatively short period Bale has been in Madrid he’s had 3 managers.

Officiating standards not good enough

What is wrong with the officials these days, I know people say it is scrutinised more than it used to be but we always had replays and we never seemed to have this many offside mistakes, and some off them are straight forward and not been confused by rule changes. I run the line at my sons games and on occasions for my Sunday team and the difficult offsides are usually to do with one two’s or quick interchanges.

Last nights offside was the most simple in the book how could a lino get that wrong, I wouldn’t and I have never had any training, what about the one at Spurs were one of them were given offside when they were in their own half, if it wasn’t so sad it would be funny, we know refs have some accountability but do lino’s?

Toon should have targeted Austin

I’m scratching my head on this one, for once, I can’t really blame Ashley, as he is supplying the funds. Aleksandar Mitrović was supposed to be the man to bang in the goals, but perhaps we should have gone for Charlie Austin? To think he’s gone for 4m, why weren’t we at the races? To think Papiss Cissé was only to give us one good season, despite it being superb. Perhaps we have better supply lines from our two new signings and hopefully, Sissoko’s form will come back to its best?

Georginio Wijnaldum has been a superb buy, hopefully, some of the pressure will be taken off him as our midfield looks awesome. I’m not sure about Fabricio Coloccini, he blows hot and cold, but with a solid midfield in front of him, he can be a quality centre back. Of course, we did bring in Chancel Mbemba Mangulu who I think is another big signing.

A lot of our problems are upfront, we are toothless and our play has gone sideways and back with no real penetration. Jonjo Shelvey changed that by his immediate impact on his debut just gone — against West Ham. Imagine the impact Townsend will have at our next home game? We will be a different team. But if we could get the goals flowing again that would be a massive help.
