Former Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi is nearing a Premier League return as Nottingham Forest are said to be closing in on his signature.
The Belgium forward won the Premier League title with Chelsea back in 2016-17 and his goal against West Brom clinched the title for Antonio Conte’s side.
Batshuayi was mostly utilised as a squad player while in London and he spent several seasons out on loan while on the books of Chelsea.
He eventually left the club on a permanent basis in 2022 to seal a move to Fenerbahce. The forward has scored 22 goals in 38 appearances for the Turkish club and could soon be on the move again.
According to Santi Aouna, Nottingham Forest are ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with Fenerbahce for the 29-year-old forward.
The reporter claims that Batshuayi has already approved the move and he is now awaiting the ‘final green light’ from Fenerbahce to seal the move.
Batshuayi has a steady record in the Premier League with 15 goals across 77 appearances. The forward has also enjoyed prolific spells with Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas.
Steve Cooper will be keen to add to his offensive options and a move for Batshuayi will certainly help his side out in the final third.
Nottingham Forest close in on Arsenal star
Along with adding Batshuayi to their ranks, Forest are also closing in on another star. Cooper has been keen to add some more defensive cover and it seems as if he has got his man.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Nuno Tavares will compete a move to the City Ground in the coming days. A loan agreement is in place with the option of a permanent deal.
“Nuno Tavares to Nottingham Forest, here we go! Deal agreed with Arsenal on loan until June 2024,” Romano confirmed on Twitter.
“Understand loan fee will be bit higher than £1m plus £12m buy option. Medical tests being completed today, new left back for Forest.”
Romano has also clarified that Nottingham Forest have a deal in place for Bologna midfielder Nico Dominguez. The Argentine midfielder will add a fresh dynamic to Cooper’s midfield.
Elsewhere, the future of forward Brennan Johnson is still up in the air. Tottenham are leading the race to sign the £50m rated attacker, although Brentford also still hold an interest.
Johnson was one of Forest’s key players last season as he scored 10 goals and provided three assists. The addition of Batshuayi would offset the loss of Johnson, but his departure would still be felt at the City Ground.
