Nottingham Forest transfer news: Record signing on board as Forest complete Taiwo Awoniyi deal

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Nigeria striker Taiwo Awoniyi for a club-record fee reported to be around £17million.
The 24-year-old moves to the City Ground from Bundesliga club Union Berlin on a five-year deal, having scored 20 goals in 43 games in his last season in Germany.
He becomes Forest’s first international signing since gaining promotion back to the Premier League.
Awoniyi began his professional career at Liverpool in 2015. However, he was consistently loaned out to the likes of FSV Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron, Gent and Mainz.
He subsequently joined Union Berlin on loan during the 2020-21 season and made the move permanent last July.
Speaking after completing his move, Awoniyi said: “I’m very excited to be here at Nottingham Forest.
“It’s always been my dream to play in the Premier League and having spoken to Steve Cooper about our ambitions and looking at Forest, with its great history, it’s a club that I want to be part of.”
Forest head coach Steve Cooper added: “There’s been a lot of interest in Taiwo from other Premier League clubs and other clubs across Europe, so we’re delighted that he’s chosen Nottingham Forest.
