Two Douglas Luiz clauses hint at ZERO minutes for Nott’m Forest signing so far

Two clauses in Douglas Luiz’s loan move to Nottingham Forest from Juventus may go some way to explaining why the summer signings has yet to play a single minute of action for the City Ground outfit so far this season.

The Brazil international completed a move back to the Premier League on August 21, but has so far failed to come off the bench in defeats to West Ham and Arsenal and a draw with Crystal Palace.

Juventus already confirmed over the summer that the fee for a one-season Luiz loan deal was €3m (£2.6m), plus a €25m (£21m) option to buy and potential bonuses up to €3.5m (£3m).

Forest’s option to buy, however, becomes an obligation to purchase if certain conditions are met.

Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport journalist Nicolo Schira are among the Italian sources reporting the details behind former Aston Villa standout Luiz’s move to the City Ground, as conspiracy theories grow as to why he isn’t playing.

But these conditions have now been revealed, with Luiz needing to make 15 Premier League appearances with Forest, while also playing at least 45 minutes in each of those games.

The appointment of Ange Postecoglou may have a big part to play in the 27-year-old actually starting to get some game time at Forest.

The Australian was heavily linked with a move for Luiz during his time as Tottenham boss and is clearly a major fan of the player.

Having excelled at Villa Park, Luiz failed to justify his €50m price tag at Juventus in 2024-25. He failed to score or provide an assist in 27 appearances across all competitions for the Turin outfit.

Luiz’s next opportunity to make his Forest debut will come at Swansea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
