Sheffield United are considering a move to bring in experienced Ghana star Andre Ayew on a free transfer, TEAMtalk understands.

The Blades are back in the big time following promotion last season but have found the going tough on their return to English football’s top table. Indeed, with four matches gone, Paul Heckingbottom’s side have just one point – secured in a 2-2 draw against Everton last time out – to their name.

Not through want of trying, though, the Blades just lack that necessary quality and know-how needed to survive in the Premier League.

Now Heckingbottom is considering a move to bring 114-times capped Ghana forward Ayew to Bramall Lane to add a little bit of craft and experience.

The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest at the end of last season. The former West Ham, Swansea and Marseille attacker moved to the City Ground on a short-term deal after departing Qatari side Al Sadd.

However, despite making 13 appearances over the back half of the season, Steve Cooper opted against extending his deal and allowing the 152-goal forward to enter the free market status.

After failing to secure a move so far, Ayew is now looking to get back into the game at the next available opportunity. Given his free agency status, he is not restricted by transfer window limits and has interest in him clubs in from Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

However, we understand the Blades are considering offering the veteran frontman a short-term deal themselves to see if he can help them in their quest for Premier League survival.
