Steven Bergwijn future latest: European giants to make improved offer for Tottenham winger

Dutch giants Ajax are reportedly ready to make an improved bid for Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn after having an initial offer rebuffed.

The Netherlands star has already expressed his desire to quit the north London club this summer after failing to earn a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte last season.

And a report from De Telegraaf claims that a new Ajax offer is on the way for the 24-year-old.

Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici is thought to value Bergwijn at around the £25.6million mark. But that figure is some way ahead of Ajax’s initial proposal of £15m plus £4.3m in add-ons.

The Daily Mirror reported last month that the Dutch side were ready to swoop for the pacy winger.

However, they will make a significant improvement on that offer if they are to get their man.

Bergwijn only scored four goals and added two assists in 32 games for Tottenham last season. But his most memorable moment of the campaign came when he scored twice in stoppage-time to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win at Leicester in January.

Bergwijn talent has not flashed enough

His overall record is not a good one, however. Indeed, the Dutchman has scored just eight goals in 83 appearances for the club.

Despite that, Bergwijn has shown flashes of his true ability that may tempt Conte to keep him. Much will depend though on what sort of forward player Tottenham bring in this summer.

Conte is known to want another No.9 to back up Harry Kane, with Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus the names in the frame for that role.

Both the Everton man and the Manchester City are also capable of playing wide though. To that end, Bergwijn’s future in north London looks doomed, but only if Daniel Levy gets his asking price.
