Antonio Conte has yet to meet with Tottenham’s hierarchy to discuss the club’s transfer plans for the January transfer window.

Conte is expecting a meeting with Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy to discuss Spurs’ way forward regarding new recruits. Already he has warned fans not to expect a quick fix this month. But speaking at the press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea, he said the meeting has yet to take place.

Conte said: “My expectation is to speak with my club and then to tell them my opinion. The club will know after I speak and the decision they want to make.”

The Spurs boss has made it clear that it will take more than one transfer window to change around the club’s fortunes. But he has admitted recently that he has “made my evaluation” in his two months in charge.

The former Inter Milan boss has more Covid-19 issues to contend with at Stamford Bridge.

Conte: “We are checking a couple of situations about Covid. We are not 100 per cent sure they will miss the game.”

Regarding the injuries of Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwijn, he said: “Sessegnon’s situation is better than Bergwijn’s. I think he’s almost ready to he available in the next game, in the FA Cup he’ll be available.

“For Steve, I think we have to pay a bit more attention because his problem was in the calf, where you have to pay more attention and wait a bit before we have him available again.”

The Italian would not be drawn on Romelu Lukaku’s situation at Chelsea.

Lukaku was dropped by Thomas Tuchel on Sunday after comments he made to the media.

Conte coy on Lukaku situation

The former Inter Milan striker claimed “I’m not happy with the situation” amid a change of role for the former Manchester United man.

“I think that it’s always a good thing to play against a team that all the players are available. I think for the people who watch the game I think to see the best players on the pitch,” said Conte diplomatically.

“Honestly, I’d like not to speak about Romelu because Romelu’s now a player of another team. I think it would be disrespectful to speak about him and Chelsea.”

However, he is looking forward to a return to west London.

“For me for sure it will be great to come back to Stamford Bridge as first time after I left Chelsea as manager to come back Stamford Bridge.

“What I can say is that I spent two amazing seasons, created lot of friendship in the club,” added Conte.
