Antonio Conte to achieve ‘exciting’ next move after Tottenham exit, with boss eager to join club fighting for European glory

Antonio Conte, October 2022

A report has tipped Antonio Conte to join an ‘exciting’ new project after his Tottenham departure earlier in the season.

Conte was on Tottenham’s books between November 2021 and March this year. When arriving in north London, the Italian was tasked with getting Tottenham into the Champions League qualification spots and helping the club end their trophy drought.

Tottenham did manage to achieve a top-four finish last season, as they snuck in there ahead of Arsenal. However, Conte could not get the team to win any silverware.

Spurs and Conte had an eventful 2022-23 campaign. They picked up some great wins but were also lacking consistency and were guilty of some terrible results and performances too.

Conte’s time in charge of the club came to an end last month. Following his outburst in the aftermath of the 3-3 draw with Southampton, he left by mutual consent.

Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini has been named as interim head coach until the end of the season, to give chairman Daniel Levy time to identify an appropriate replacement.

Julian Nagelsmann is one option, although Spurs could miss out on him to Chelsea. Surprisingly, Spurs have been backed to bring in one of their former strikers instead.

While Levy is weighing up which manager to replace Conte, the 53-year-old is looking to get his career back on track.

New club beckons for Antonio Conte

As per Calciomercato, he could head back to Italy by joining Roma. The Serie A outfit are currently managed by Jose Mourinho, another former Spurs boss.

But Mourinho has emerged as a surprise candidate for the Paris Saint-Germain role. According to The Athletic, the Brazilian FA are also considering opening discussions with Mourinho if they miss out on Carlo Ancelotti.

Calciomercato talk up the possibility of Mourinho leaving Roma this summer. And they believe Conte would make a great replacement for the Portuguese at the Stadio Olimpico.

Conte is on the hunt for a ‘new challenge’ after an unsuccessful second spell in the Premier League. And Roma could offer him that.

The Giallorossi represent an ‘exciting’ project after winning the inaugural Europa Conference League last term. They could also add the Europa League to their list of honours, as they are through to the quarter-finals of the competition. Mourinho and his team will be hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg against Feyenoord.

Conte would be an intriguing appointment from Roma. Some supporters of the club will be excited by his ambition and passion.

He has great pedigree too, having won league titles with Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus.

However, other Roma fans may be frustrated with the move given Conte’s strong links with Juve. He has played for and managed the Turin-based outfit and is often linked with a return there.

Roma are not the only side interested in Conte. The report states how he may also head back to Inter, where he was at between May 2019 and May 2021.

Inter officials have put Conte on their shortlist in case they part ways with current boss Simone Inzaghi.

Despite this, Roma have a trick up their sleeve to tempt Conte to the Italian capital. They are ready to offer him complete control of the club’s transfers, so he can create the squad he wants.

This was a big problem at Spurs, which is one of the reasons why he left. Inter will struggle to provide Conte with such power, making a move to Roma far more likely.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has named Spurs as being one of the leading clubs to snare a Valencia star.
