Antonio Conte future: Sky Sports man drops massive news amid escalating talk Italian could quit Tottenham
Talk that Antonio Conte is looking to quit Tottenham when his deal runs out this summer has been cleared up by Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Italian coach signed an 18-month deal upon his appointment at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2021. And while Spurs have been desperate to tie the former Chelsea and Inter boss down to an extension, an agreement is yet to be reached.
As a result, talk that Conte could walk away from Tottenham at the end of the season has never been too far away. Indeed, throughout his tenure, Conte has dropped hints about his future and the possibility of his departure.
Those whispers first emerged last season when, after a dismal defeat at Burnley – their fourth in five games at the time – he admitted his frustrations and dropped a major exit hint.
Thankfully for Spurs, those fears appeared to fade following their recovery from that dodgy patch to seal Champions League qualification. And what followed was a huge summer of investment with Conte signing seven players to change the shape of his squad.
However, those exits rumours have never been too far away from Conte.
And with an extension yet to be reached, Tottenham oracle Alasdair Gold claimed on New Year’s Eve the Italian was once again ready to walk away.
To add further concern for Spurs, rumours linking him with a return to former club Juventus are rarely far away.
However, trusted Sky Sports reporter Sheth has moved to quell fears Conte could walk.
Speaking to the Spurs Chat podcast on YouTube, Sheth has shared what he knows about Conte’s future.
Antonio Conte future remains at Tottenham
And rather than cause panic among the Spurs faithful, Sheth is confident that the Italian will remain with the club.
Furthermore, the Sky Sports reporter claims Conte is determined to end Tottenham’s long wait to win a trophy too.
He said: “I’m told Antonio Conte will NOT leave until he wins a trophy at Tottenham. So there is every chance he will be at Spurs beyond his contract expiring on 30 June.”
That news will be welcomed by the majority of Tottenham fans with the club making good progress under his leadership. Indeed, with around £150m shelled out over the summer, Daniel Levy has certainly shown backing to his manager.
The future of Conte is also intrinsically linked to that of Harry Kane too. The England skipper’s deal at Spurs is due to expire in summer 2024, as it stands. He has held off on signing an extension too, to see which direction Tottenham are heading.
Being back in the Champions League is obviously a positive step towards retaining his services. However, Kane also wants sustained qualification for the competition. In addition, he is hungry to win a trophy. Unfortunately – Aldi Cup aside (!) – he’s yet to lift any silverware during his time at the club.
Should Conte leave, it would leave massive question marks over Kane. Predictably, the Spurs frontman is once again being linked with Manchester United. And an exit for Conte would only serve to hasten Kane departure rumblings too.
