Antonio Conte makes transfer move for African star as special guarantees give Tottenham an edge

Antonio Conte is pushing forward with plans to snare a new midfielder to Tottenham this month after reports claimed an approach has been made to his LaLiga club.

The Spurs manager is entering his third transfer window as Tottenham boss and is hoping for more telling additions. Indeed, Conte used the January window to great effect last year, signing Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusesvski from Juventus. And the pair made a significant impact as Tottenham ousted Arsenal in the race for the top four.

The summer window also saw Conte make eight more signings, with Richarlison and Yves Bissouma the most eye-catching. Cristian Romero’s move from Atalanta was also made permanent.

However, Bissouma has struggled to adjust to Conte’s tactics in north London and has endured a disappointing time so far. As such, it comes as little surprise that Conte is looking for another midfield addition to beef up his options.

And the Spurs boss has already made clear his wish to strengthen his squad if they are to secure another top-four finish.

Now according to reports in Spain, Conte is edging ever closer to landing a new addition.

And the man at the top of his wishlist is Franck Kessie, who has found game-time tough since moving to Barcelona.

Indeed, the Ivory Coast star is struggling to catch Xavi Hernandez’s eye since that free-transfer move from AC Milan. And the 26-year-old has made just six starts in all competitions – with just two coming in LaLiga.

Now reports claim Conte has made his move to bring Kessie to north London.

They are reportedly rivalled in the chase by Inter, who want to bring the player back to Milan.

Tottenham have Franck Kessie transfer edge

However, it is Spurs who are seemingly in the driving seat for his transfer. The Premier League side will have no trouble meeting Barca’s £18m asking price for Kessie, with the LaLiga giants keen on the idea of making a quick profit on the summer arrival.

Furthermore, Conte knows exactly what Kessie can bring to his side and believes he has ‘all the conditions’ to thrive in the Premier League. And Conte, who was looking to sign Kessie last year, will guarantee him more game-time than he’s currently getting in Catalonia.

With Spurs now ready to make an approach to Barcelona, reports claims a deal could be wrapped up soon.

He will compete with Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bissouma and Oliver Skipp for a place in central midfield.

But with the latter two failing to impress, Kessie will likely find himself quickly in the thick of things.

Skipp was handed a rare opportunity to shine on Wednesday evening as Spurs ran out 4-0 winners at Crystal Palace.

But despite the victory, Skipp came in for plenty of criticism from one Tottenham pundit.

Spurs have a busy schedule coming in as Conte looks to make inroads in the Champions League. And securing another spot in the top four of the Premier League will also be at the forefront of his mind.

Tottenham will face Milan in the round-0f-16 of the Champions League. And should he sign, Kessie could soon find himself in opposition to the club where he made his name.
