Antonio Conte reveals dugout plans for Brighton clash after Tottenham boss hit by Covid

Antonio Conte, Tottenham, April 2022.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte will be in the dugout for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton after his recent bout of coronavirus.

The Italian tested positive following last weekend’s win at Aston Villa after complaining of mild symptoms, but is now feeling better and will be able to bellow his normal instructions from the sidelines.

He has been involved at the training ground this week by social distancing and will lead the team as normal.

“After the game against Aston Villa and the day after I started to feel a bit of mild symptoms, a bit of pain in my throat and I asked to have a Covid test and it was positive,” Conte said.

“But now I am fine, I am well. For sure during this week was a strange week for me and the players. The players are used to doing training with me.

“I think on Saturday I stay in my place on the bench. Given the length of time since my Covid test I think I can stay on the bench on Saturday.”

Conte also reacted to the news of in-form Tottenham full-back Matt Doherty being ruled out for the season.

He added: “Yeah this is really bad news for us. you know very well Doherty improvement on our team.

Antonio Conte is set on his first summer signing for Tottenham Hotspur as they look to sign Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent deal following loan

“It’s a pity because to lose a player like him rest of season not good for us. Also Tanganaga and Skipp not available for us.

“Bad news for us in one on hand. But on the other hand I think we have solutions to try and cope with situation until end of season.”

Straight swap at left-back for Tottenham

Sergio Reguilon will almost certainly take over from Doherty at left wing-back against the Seagulls.

Conte may also decide to freshen up the right side and give Ryan Sessegnon a chance to shine again, although Emerson Royal is more likely to retain his position there.

Tottenham have no other injury concerns, however, as they look to cement fourth-spot with another victory.
