Conte singles out Tottenham department who have it ‘too easy’ and calls for major change in rant

Antonio Conte has called for Tottenham to arrange press conferences for medical staff to explain the club’s injury situation in detail.

Spurs, like all Premier League clubs, have suffered from a host of injury issues across this season. This week, though, they were without four key players for their trip to Middlesbrough.

Lucas Moura, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur and Japhet Tanganga were all absent for the FA Cup fifth-round clash.

The Championship hosts eventually won in extra time, subsequently piling more pressure on Conte. Indeed, Spurs are now facing another season without silverware.

Conte confirmed in Friday’s press conference that January signing Bentancur and Moura are back available.

However, Skipp and centre-back Tanganga, who has a knee problem, remain out for Monday’s clash with Everton. Conte then called for change to the way medical departments at English football clubs operate.

He said (via Football London): “It’s a pity. I think in England that sometimes you should have a conference with the medical department.

“It’s too easy for the doctors to work here. They don’t speak and they don’t explain.

“It could be good one day and then in two weeks to have a press conference with the medical department to explain about this situation with the players, about the situation that they are trying to take care of the players.

“It’s too easy for the medical department.”

Conte confirmed that midfielder Skipp is still battling his groin injury. While he showed signs of recovery, “maybe something was wrong and now we have to wait”, the manager added.

Skipp has missed Tottenham’s last seven games, his last appearance coming against Chelsea in January.

Tottenham continued their inconsistent form with their FA Cup exit. They also lost 1-0 to Burnley recently, after which Conte seriously questioned his future.

However, Spurs have beaten Leeds United 4-0 and Manchester City 3-2 in other matches of late.

Conte wants Tottenham stability

“For sure, to have this up and down I don’t like. I always said this from my first day when I arrived,” the manager said.

“Tottenham’s story is this, many ups and downs.

“But to be competitive, to try to win something, to try to fight for something important and become a strong team, the first thing that has to happen is to be stable and avoid these ups and downs.”

Conte labelled Monday’s Premier League clash with Everton in north London a “good game” for Tottenham “in the right moment”.

Everton are also looking to get back to Premier League winning ways after last Saturday’s controversial defeat to Man City.
