Tottenham urged to steer well clear of Conte target who would drive former Liverpool star ‘insane’

Stephen Warnock has urged any potential suitors to be wary of signing Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer, with Tottenham strongly linked.

The Toffees splashed out £30million to sign Pickford from Sunderland back in 2017 and he has gone to make 189 appearances for the Goodison Park outfit in all competitions.

But despite being England’s No.1, Pickford is often criticised for his erratic on-field demeanour.

That has not stopped Spurs boss Antonio Conte being a fan. Indeed, the Daily Telegraph reports that the Italian wants the 28-year-old as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

Warnock, however, is clearly not a fan after watching Pickford ship four goals against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “I wouldn’t want to play in front of Jordan Pickford. I’d be thinking please be quiet. The way he’s acting, the way he goes about things, he’d drive me insane!

“You’re a goalkeeper, do your job and save the ball. Don’t moan at people for getting shots away. He’s just so animated, that for me, every time I see him I think there’s a mistake coming or he’s out of control in what he’s doing constantly.”

Pickford has endured a tough campaign with the struggling Toffees. Indeed, he has conceded 44 goals in his 25 Premier League games and has kept just four clean sheets.

Five of those goals actually came against Conte’s Spurs in a woeful defensive display from Frank Lampard’s men.

But that has seemingly not stopped the Tottenham chief from considering the Three Lions star as his next No.1.

Indeed, there even reports that Everton could look to move on from the player this summer, even if they avoid relegation from the Premier League.
