Barcelona bid aids Tottenham cause with transfer Conte craves on the cusp of completion

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte

The final pieces of the Pedro Porro puzzle are falling into place after Barcelona tabled a bid that’ll hasten a deal between Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon, per a trusted source.

Antonio Conte settled on Sporting’s Pedro Porro as the perfect candidate to revamp his right wing-back position.

The Spain international, 23, is an upgrade on both sides of the ball when compared to what Conte already has. Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have flattered to deceive, while Djed Spence looks set to join Rennes on loan.

After lengthy negotiations, Tottenham appeared to strike an agreement to sign Porro via instalments. However, the move Porro was described as being ‘off’ by David Ornstein on Monday after the Portuguese club altered their demands in the final hours.

Thankfully for Spurs fans, Tottenham kept the communication channels open and after an arduous meeting, the new terms were smoothened out.

Fabrizio Romano gave the deal his signature ‘here we go’ confirmation on Monday night, while Porro reportedly boarded a flight to England in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A medical has been scheduled ahead of Porro’s £39.6m arrival. That is the player’s release clause fee, though Spurs are understood to be paying the sum in instalments as they’d hoped. A five-and-a-half year deal running until June 2028 will be signed.

Sporting are expected to sign Barcelona’s Hector Bellerin to fill the hole left by Porro. The obvious next question is who would Barca sign to replace the Bellerin, and if they have no one lined up, could the entire transfer chain fall apart?

Thankfully, that scenario won’t unfold after Barcelona tabled an official bid to sign LA Galaxy’s Julian Araujo, per Romano.

The 21-year-old Mexico international is the subject of a loan bid that includes an option to buy, per Fabrizio Romano.

LA Galaxy have reportedly rejected the opening approach, though the player is keen to join Barca and a deal looks like it can be made.

ESPN (via the Daily Mail) added Araujo is expected to slot straight into Barcelona’s B team if signed. However, the right-back is highly thought of and Barca believe he could be promoted to the first-team in short order.

With Sporting and Barcelona both lining up adequate replacements, the final piece of the puzzle in Porro’s move to Tottenham has fallen into place.

Romano later concluded the ‘move is confirmed – done, sealed. It won’t collapse.’
