Tottenham, Everton alerted as Brazilian centre-back target stalls on contract extension at Serie A club

Rodrigo Becao captaining Udinese

Tottenham and Everton centre-back target Rodrigo Becao is reportedly reluctant to sign a contract extension with Serie A high-flyers Udinese, sparking talk of a potential exit.

Normal service is not exactly the order of the day in Serie A at the moment, with Napoli leading the way from Atalanta in the table, while Udinese currently sit in fourth place.

The likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Inter are all struggling. But while Napoli and Atalanta’s progress is not entirely a shock, Udinese’s form most certainly is.

La Zebrette are currently excelling, with the likes of Becao, Gerard Deulofeu, Beto, Roberto Pereyra and the Tottenham-bound Destiny Udogie all playing a part in their impressive form.

But it’s powerful centre-back Becao who continues to enhance talk of a potential Premier League switch.

Everton are known to have held talks with the £17million-rated Brazilian back in July. However, they eventually ended up with the more experienced James Tarkowski and Conor Coady instead.

Antonio Conte was also in the market for at least one new central defender in the last window. But despite linked with countless names, including Becao, it was Clement Lenglet who eventually arrived on loan from Barcelona.

But the fact that Messaggero claims Becao has little interest in looking to extend his current contract, which has less than two years remaining, has sparked talk of a potential January exit – for the right price.

The report adds that the Toffees could swoop, given that Yerry Mina’s future is up in the air. Michael Keane could also look for a fresh start after being usurped by both Tarkowski and Coady at Goodison.

Conte still wants another centre-back

As for Tottenham, Conte still wants a new left-sided defender to play in his back three.

The fact that Lenglet will return to Barca next summer means a vacancy will almost certainly be available.

Inter Milan trio Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij remain the Italian’s preferred targets. However, if the 26-year-old Becao continues his rapid rise then he could turn out to be a cheaper alternative.

Messaggero adds that Becao ‘has the ambition to prove himself’ at a higher level. With that in mind, he does not want to scupper a potential high-profile move by extending his Leverkusen stay.

Tottenham are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they host Everton in the late Premier League kick-off.

However, there could be a battle of a different kind, if both clubs renew their interest in Becao, either in the new year or next summer.
