Harry Kane is of interest to Chelsea, according to a reporter who has shed light on how they rate their chances of luring him from Tottenham Hotspur.
Kane was a major topic of conversation during last summer’s transfer window. After a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, he indicated a desire to leave Tottenham. At the time, a move to Manchester City was a possibility.
But 12 months later, the situation has changed. Joining Man City would no longer be feasible, since the champions have already signed Erling Haaland. Besides, Tottenham are in a better place to appease Kane than they were before.
Antonio Conte guided them to Champions League qualification with a fourth-place finish this time around. What’s more, Spurs have shown ambition in the transfer market, bringing in several new players.
It now seems Kane is a lot happier with the direction in which the club is heading. There have even been claims he would be willing to extend his contract, which is due to expire in 2024.
If he does not, though, rumours about a move elsewhere will persist. For example, Bayern Munich have made little secret of their own interest after letting go of Robert Lewandowski. But a move to the Bundesliga this summer has been ruled out.
Now, German reporter Christian Falk has claimed Kane is “very interesting for Chelsea”. The Blues recently offloaded Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan on loan and it may be unlikely that he is seen at Stamford Bridge again, unless as an opponent.
Chelsea replenished their attack with the addition of former Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling. However, they have not brought in another natural centre-forward.
Several players of that role have struggled at Chelsea in recent years. But Kane is proven in the Premier League and would be an interesting reinforcement if they could convince their London rivals to do business.
According to Falk, though, Chelsea believe Spurs “would prefer to sell Kane to a club like Bayern” as opposed to another Premier League side, in the event of him not signing a new deal.
Tottenham still seems best fit for Harry Kane
Hence, the chances of a move abroad may remain intact for Kane at some point in the future. But for now, it seems his association with Tottenham will continue anyway.
Will Harry Kane ever leave Spurs?
Could we ever see Harry Kane leave Tottenham?
An academy product of the north London club, Kane has scored 247 goals in 385 appearances for their first team so far. There should be more to come as the England captain chases down some goalscoring records.
Whether he would eventually leave Tottenham one day remains to be seen. The prospect of him playing abroad, for a club of Bayern’s stature, would be interesting. Seeing him in action for Chelsea, though, is hard to imagine.
