Christian Eriksen transfer latest: Tottenham, Man Utd scouts in attendance as Brentford man shines for Denmark

Brentford and Denmark star Christian Eriksen

Tottenham and Manchester United scouts, along with officials from eight other clubs, watched Christian Eriksen shine for Denmark on Monday, according to a report.

The attacking midfielder is back in the Denmark squad after an impressive six months with Brentford in the Premier League. He is now back to his best and adding to his 100+ caps, having previously collapsed at a Euro 2020 game.

Eriksen’s Brentford contract expires at the end of the month. He is in negotiations with the Bees over an extension after becoming an important first-team player.

But rumours are swirling about a move away from the Community Stadium. A fairytale return to Tottenham could be on the cards.

Fabrizio Romano claims Eriksen will be ‘extremely respectful’ to Brentford after they gave him the opportunity to get back on the pitch.

Therefore, he will tell club chiefs about his transfer decision as soon as it is made. This will give them plenty of time to find a potential replacement this summer.

Eriksen’s most recent international appearance came in Denmark’s 2-1 victory over Austria on Monday.

The playmaker did really well, setting up Jens Stryger Larsen for Denmark’s 84th-minute winner.

Christian Eriksen impresses as scouts watch on

According to Sport Witness, who cite Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, plenty of scouts were taking a look at Eriksen.

Among them were officials from Tottenham and Manchester United. Spurs in particular had a ‘special focus’ on their former player.

Spurs and the Red Devils are two of the main Premier League suitors for Eriksen’s signature. He is viewed as potentially a top-quality addition for no transfer fee.

But competition is growing for the free-transfer coup. Representatives from West Ham, Torino, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg were also watching Eriksen on Monday.

Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Istanbulspor, as well as Norwegian club Sarpsborg, make up the list of 10 scouting teams.

Eriksen clearly has lots of possibilities when it comes to a summer move. He has shown he still has the ability and fitness to make a big impact at the top level.

But the 30-year-old may opt to remain at Brentford. After all, he is revered there and is pretty much guaranteed a starting spot.

The same cannot be said for Spurs or United, where he may have to sit on the bench. So it could be in Eriksen’s best interests to pen a new contract with Thomas Frank’s side.

The report adds that Spurs could have also been watching Eriksen’s Denmark team-mate, Joakim Maehle.

Meanwhile, Spurs outcast Steven Bergwijn has explained his hopes of leaving the club as Ajax close in on his signature.
