Tottenham one step away from fifth summer deal as Clement Lenglet loan signing nears completion

Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham have reached a full agreement with Clement Lenglet, and the signing will soon be completed.

Tottenham have been the most active club in the Premier League in the transfer window so far. They have already secured deals for four new signings.

Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison have all joined the club. While the quartet will have varying roles, they all appear to be good signings.

Antonio Conte is clearly keen to make the side his own, and push beyond the fourth-placed finish achieved last term.

Spurs are now nearing a fifth summer signing, as Conte continues to improve his side.

Transfer guru Romano has revealed that the north London outfit have agreed terms with Barcelona defender Lenglet.

The Frenchman has made 158 appearances for Barcelona over the past four seasons. While his role was a consistent one initially, his game time has dwindled of late.

Indeed, this past season, the centre-back made just 21 appearances in the league. That is the lowest total of any season during his time at Barcelona.

As such, it seems he is becoming surplus to requirements at Camp Nou, and will be allowed to go on loan to Tottenham.

Romano reports that Spurs are still in contact with Barca to finalise details of the move, but it is soon to be completed.

Lenglet to add quality to Spurs

Lenglet should add quality to the Spurs side. Indeed, he has played four seasons with Barcelona – one of the world’s biggest clubs – and is clearly a talented footballer.

The signing of a top defender is a move in the right direction for Spurs. They have recruited well in each area of the pitch so far, and will the defence is just as important as any other position.

Spurs conceded the most goals of any of the Premier League’s top four last season, shipping 40; seven more than Chelsea.

Solidifying their defence, as they look to be doing with this signing, should help them to climb the table, and fight for a better finish in the coming season.
