Remarkable claim puts Conte in ‘negotiation’ to leave Tottenham; Chelsea transfer first up at new club

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte

An Italian journalist is insistent Antonio Conte is in talks to leave Tottenham, and a Chelsea flop is being touted to become his first signing at PSG.

Bringing Conte on board was seen as a real statement of intent by Tottenham. Daniel Levy acted fast to replace Nuno Espirito Santo after just 17 matches in charge. Conte got the call and returned to England to lead the charge for top four.

Spurs’ season has been far from smooth sailing since the Italian took the reins. Nevertheless, five wins from their last six league matches suggest they are hitting their stride at just the right time.

Indeed, Conte also has the front three of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski firing on all cylinders. The trio have been instrumental in lifting Tottenham up to fourth spot at present.

So with things clearly trending in the right direction, it comes as a shock to see talk of a premature Conte exit emerge from Italy.

Italian journalist Fabio Santini spoke to Calciomercato.it TV, and claimed Conte is in negotiations with PSG behind the scenes.

The Parisians look certain to cut ties with Mauricio Pochettino this summer after their campaign has taken a dramatic nosedive.

Pochettino had been viewed as a potential candidate to succeed Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United. However, that role now seems certain to be going to Erik ten Hag.

Regardless, PSG could still be searching for a new manager at season’s end and Santini reckons Conte will fill the void.

Conte “does not stay in London”

“He does not stay in London,” said Santini. “I know thanks to a source very close to him. And at the moment there is a negotiation with the Parisians.

Santini then delivered a second bombshell declaration, though this time it surrounded Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian cost the Blues £97.5m in the summer but has endured a miserable campaign thus far.

Talk of a quick return to Inter Milan has pervaded the media, though whether they can finance a deal – even in a loan capacity – remains in doubt.

Instead, Santini stated Lukaku could follow Conte to PSG and link back up with the manager who brought the best out of him in Milan.

“For about two weeks he [Lukaku] and Hakimi have been flooding old Inter colleagues with Whatsapp messages,” Santini added.

“Lukaku can only return to Inter on loan, but at the moment there is a negotiation between Conte and PSG, where Conte goes for Lukaku.

“PSG have all the elements to be well accepted by the Belgian. You don’t go back to Inter but go to your coach. Unlike Inter who today announced that they will make two sales at the end of the season.”
