Antonio Conte, Tottenham hailed for ‘sensational’ January signing – but Max Allegri blasted
Former Italy international Antonio Cassano has lauded Antonio Conte and Tottenham for the January signing of Dejan Kulusevski, while also blasting Juventus boss Max Allegri for the transfer decision.
Kulusevski showed great promise at Atalanta and Parma to earn a Juventus transfer in January 2020. He went on to make 74 appearances for the Turin outfit, scoring just nine times.
Allegri never really got the best out of the right winger during their time together. As such, Juve chiefs sanctioned a loan move to Tottenham in the winter window.
Kulusevki has been a revelation in north London and is linking up well with fellow attackers Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.
His most recent appearance came in the Premier League against Aston Villa. The Swede managed a goal and assist, helping Conte’s side to a comfortable 4-0 win.
Kulusevski’s form will be important if Spurs are to beat Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester United to fourth place.
Antonio Conte guiding Spurs to UCL qualification
They are in the driving seat for Champions League qualification after that victory at Villa. Spurs have a three-point lead on Arsenal, although the Gunners have a game in hand, while they are six points above West Ham and United.
Spurs paid £8.3million to land Kulusevski on loan for the second half of the campaign. Sky Sports reveal they can make the deal permanent this summer for just over £29m.
They also brought in Uruguayan central midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur from Juve. He cost an initial £15.9m, as per BBC Sport.
Cassano believes they have been transfer masterstrokes from Conte and Tottenham. However, he also slammed Allegri for the pair’s exit – sarcastically calling the manager a ‘genius’.
While appearing on Twitch, Cassano said (via HITC): “The genius sent Kulusevski and Bentancur away, who are fourth in the standings at Tottenham.
“Both [are doing] very well. Dejan is sensational, assists and goals. Conte then manages to squeeze his players and make them perform at their best. He has always done so. Last year at Inter and today at Spurs.”
They host Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday lunchtime. After that, Spurs travel to Brentford on April 23.
