Kulusevski ‘never seen something like it’, revealing special ‘next level’ Conte building at Tottenham

Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham August 2022

Dejan Kulusevski says Antonio Conte has inspired Tottenham to believe there are no limitations on the heights they can reach in the Premier League.

There is a hype around Spurs this season following the arrival of Conte as manager in November. The Italian endured a rocky start and there were indeed doubts as to whether he would stay.

He has not only stayed on, but put them in their best position since Mauricio Pochettino’s final season in charge in 2018/19.

Tottenham are back in the Champions League and are looking to kick on from last season’s top-four Premier League finish.

And January signing Kulusevski has proved a big part of the turnaround under Conte. Adding a new dimension to the attack alongside Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, the Sweden international is now a regular starter.

This summer, Conte has not let up and brought in seven new faces. According to Kulusevski, the future is bright for Spurs.

“We signed all the good players and the manager stayed,” he told Sky Sports. “I’m very hopeful, we can go far both [domestically] and in the Champions League. It’s just work, you stay silent and at the end we’re going to see.

“We can decide [where we finish after] that. I know one thing. My manager always says everybody can talk but on the pitch it’s different. And that’s what I want to do, I want us to show everybody on the pitch.

“We’ll see how far we’re going to go. The team’s good, talented and works hard.”

Kulusevski senses special Tottenham journey

Kulusevski went on to detail how Conte’s desire to win at all costs is driving a strong mentality at Tottenham.

At 22, Kulusevski has not seen too much happen in his early career – but Conte’s mindset is like nothing he has witnessed before.

“[Conte] always says you’re not here to have fun, you’re here to win games, and to score,” the 25-cap international said.

“To attack the goal. [He’s] like, ‘Don’t pass too much, don’t be in a zone’. And he’s right because he just wants one thing — to win. To enjoy — he doesn’t want nothing like that! He wants to win because he’s a winner.

“I’m so grateful to have him because I have never seen something like it. I’ve never seen somebody that in love with winning. I think that’s going to take me and the team to the next level.”

Spurs star crucial to Conte

Kulusevski and midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur both arrived in a deadline day swoop for Tottenham in January.

And the former has had a magnificent impact on his new club which is a sign of things to come.

Kulusevski scored five Premier League goals and assisted eight others in his first 18 Premier League appearances. Those contributions included a goal and an assist in a 3-2 away win at champions Manchester City.

This term, he has carried that form on with a goal and assist already.

Tottenham have an option to buy Kulusevski for a reported €30million (£25million) – but they could yet sign him on a mandatory €35million option from Juventus if performance clauses are met.

With the way he is going, Spurs will not mind paying the extra money to sign the Swede.
