Tottenham submit interest in exciting wide man who has already replaced key Conte figure

Inter Milan are aware of interest from Tottenham Hotspur for their wing-back Denzel Dumfries, according to reports in Italy.

Antonio Conte will want to strengthen his Spurs squad in the summer. Reports have indicated he has up to six roles to fill, one of which is the right wing-back berth. Currently, duties there are shared by Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal.

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for an upgrade and have been linked with a few options. For example, they could turn to Wilfried Singo of Torino or Middlesbrough-owned Djed Spence.

But another name on their list, as revealed by Tuttosport, is Denzel Dumfries. He plays for Inter Milan at club level and the Netherlands internationally.

His move to Inter came last summer in the wake of the club’s sale of Achraf Hakimi. The Moroccan was one of a number of key figures who had to be sacrificed for financial reasons.

Another was head coach Conte, who had gone by the time Dumfries was brought in but could now try to take him to Tottenham.

According to the report, Tottenham have made their interest in Dumfries known. In return, it has come to light that Inter are not opposed to letting him go after one season.

Dumfries has had a positive impact under Conte’s successor at Inter, Simone Inzaghi, this season. In his debut season in Serie A, he has provided four goals and four assists from 28 appearances, including 17 starts.

However, Inter could cash in if they receive an offer in the region of €35m to €40m (£29m to £33m). It would give them a quick profit on their €13.7m investment from last summer.

Former PSV full-back Dumfries is under contract in Milan until 2025. However, Tottenham could now try to prise him away before then.

They are not the only ones considering such a move, though. According to Tuttosport, Bayern Munich are also at a similar stage with Dumfries.

The Bundesliga champions have likewise registered their interest in the 26-year-old. Right-back is an area they are looking to reinforce as well.

Dumfries would be an interesting option for either of his suitors. Although Inter would prefer to keep him, they could do a deal at the right price.

Tottenham will be the ones hoping to win the battle for his services if he does become available.
