Djed Spence picture becoming clearer as Tottenham in ‘advanced talks’ for Middlesbrough ace

Reports claim that Tottenham are now in advanced talks to sign Middlesbrough defender Djed Spence in the summer transfer widow.
Spurs managed to pip north London rivals Arsenal to fourth spot in the Premier League standings. And there will be Champions League football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2022-2023. With that in mind, manager Antonio Conte has already begun his off-season recruitment drive.
Midfielder Ivan Perisic and goalkeeper Fraser Forster have both arrived on free transfers from Inter and Southampton respectively. And it seems as though Spence may be next.
The 21-year-old has been with Boro since the summer of 2018 after spending two years in the Fulham academy. He has made 70 appearances for the Teessiders but spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest.
And the England Under-21 ace excelled as the East Midlanders gained promotion via the play-offs. He played 46 times in all competitions, scoring three goals.
And it was thought that the London-born star might sign permanent terms with Forest after their elevation to the top flight. Other clubs have also shown an interest.
Newcastle United have been linked with numerous players this summer and their name has also been mentioned in connection with Spence. But it is Spurs who seem closest to landing the talented youngster.
It was suggested earlier this month that they would do whatever it takes to get a deal over the line. And Sky Sports are reporting that they are now in advanced talks over a summer move.
Conte a big fan of Spence
Antonio Conte managed to turn things around at Tottenham after the Nuno Espirito Santo experiment failed to deliver the goods.
There were times in the season when the Italian seemed disillusioned but he stuck to his task. The reward was a top-four finish and place back among Europe’s elite.
The former Chelsea chief is a respected manager in the European game and clearly has an eye for talent. The ex-Italy boss is said to be the driving force behind the pursuit of Spence and is desperate to land the full-back.
It is not yet a done deal but unlikely that Middlesbrough will stand in his way if he desires a top-flight switch. Spence is currently on international duty with he England Under-21 squad.
And it is likely that his future will be sorted sooner rather than later when he returns.
