Tottenham are putting plans in place for a sensational double January swoop, Man Utd are favourites to bring in a £113m-rated Atletico Madrid star, while Monday’s Euro Paper Talk claims Newcastle are leading the chase for a three-times Champions League winner.
LEONARDO BONUCCI TIPPED FOR JANUARY MOVE TO TOTTENHAM
Tottenham are ready to move for Juventus captain Leonardo Bonucci in January amid claims he is free to leave the Bianconeri.
The Juventus icon, who is closing in on a half-century of games for the club, has been earmarked to leave as part of their cost-cutting exercises.
Bonucci is reportedly earning £198,000 a week with Juve and the club are willing to let him leave for a lowly sum.
And according to Calciomercato, Spurs are giving serious thoughts to bringing him to north London.
The 35-year-old is well known to several figures at Tottenham already. Indeed, Cristian Romero, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur all know the 118-cap Italy star well from their time in Turin. And he has also, of course, played under Antonio Conte and director Fabio Paratici before.
And Conte believes Bonucci’s experience can prove vital for Spurs over the second half of the campaign. They are well placed to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League. And they also have ambitions of challenging for the title. As things stand, Spurs are four points off leaders Arsenal, having taken a club-record 23 points from their opening 10 Premier League matches.
Conte also ready to make Manuel Ugarte swoop
Tottenham are also in contact with Manuel Ugarte as they ponder a huge January swoop for the Sporting Lisbon star.
The Uruguayan midfielder has caught the eye with some superb performances in the Champions League, playing the full 90 minutes in their recent 2-0 win over Spurs.
Indeed, he has very much become a regular in their side following Matheus Nunes’ switch to Wolves over the summer.
Now Jornal de Noticias claims Spurs are in contact with the player as they ponder a January swoop.
Any deal, though, for the midfielder will not come cheap.
His current deal with Sporting ties him to the club until summer 2026 and contains in it a £52.1m (€60m) release clause. However, Sporting are reportedly close to agreeing a new deal with the player that would see that release clause climbing to £65.5m (€80m).
Nonetheless, Sporting would not stand in his way were a giant offer to arrive. And the report claims Conte wants to act quickly to land the 21-year-old, amid claims PSG are also plotting a move.
