Euro Paper Talk: Tottenham ponder £70m raid for Champions League star, with two further deals in pipeline; Arsenal have fresh Prem rivals for midfielder

Manuel Ugarte, October 2022

Tottenham eye an exciting Champions League star alongside two other targets, while Arsenal have Premier League rivals for a top midfielder – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

TOTTENHAM EYE UGARTE AND TWO OTHER TARGETS

Sporting’s breakthrough Champions League star Manuel Ugarte is reportedly a target for Tottenham, who have two other impressive rising stars on their radar.

Spurs enjoyed one of the busiest summer transfer windows in the Premier League, bringing in a host of first-team talent. And boss Antonio Conte has integrated the likes of Ivan Perisic and Richarlison into his team.

Fellow signings Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma are struggling to have the desired impact just yet. And after a poor recent run – hit back at with a 1-0 win over Brighton – Conte has insisted that he needs time to seriously improve Tottenham.

Indeed, he admitted that he needs several transfer windows to get his squad properly competing on all fronts. As such, Record in Portugal claims that Sporting’s Ugarte is an exciting target for Conte.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder played 39 games in his debut season there last term. He also made four Champions League outings, but he has particularly come to the fore in that competition this campaign instead.

Thus, Sporting want to tie six-cap Uruguay star Ugarte – who will have his eyes on a World Cup spot – down to a new contract.

Those fresh terms are supposedly coming very soon and will increase his release clause from €60million (£52million) to €80million (£70million). Even so, that may not be enough to put Spurs off a 2023 raid, either in January or next summer.

Elsewhere, Tottenham boss Conte reportedly has his eyes on two Serie A targets.

Calciomercato claims he is looking at Roma’s Nicola Zalewski, who Spurs were linked with in the summer.

And Sassuolo’s rising Italy star Davide Frattesi is also still being monitored by Conte and Tottenham transfer chief Fabio Paratici.

Versatile Poland international Zalewski, 20, has played on the left and right flanks for Roma this season, in both attacking and defensive roles.

Frattesi, meanwhile, played for Italy against England in June and has scored three goals in Serie A this term for Sassuolo.
