Tottenham will step up talks for a top Antonio Conte target, with Spurs players getting in on the act, while Roma plot a second Man Utd raid – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.
NICOLO ZANIOLO WANTED BY TOTTENHAM
Tottenham will ramp up their pursuit of versatile Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo in the coming days, with several factors reportedly offering hope of a deal.
Spurs have added six new faces to their ranks already this summer, but there is a sense there could be one more big signing. And manager Antionio Conte and director of football Fabio Paratici have focused on Serie A.
In particular, their gaze has fallen on Italy international Zaniolo. Conte thinks he has a big future and is reportedly considering using him as a wing-back – as well as in his trademark midfield and attacking roles.
Roma have set a €50million (£42million) price tag for Zaniolo, but according to Calciomercato, Tottenham reckon they can make the Serie A side budge.
Spurs want to offer Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele to Roma in the hope of driving down Zaniolo’s fee. Paratici is working on that side of the clubs’ business with his Roma counterpart Tiago Pinto. Once Paratici gets an exit or two sorted, he will go after Zaniolo.
Gazzetta dello Sport claims that talks over Spurs exits and their Zaniolo interest will take place in separate meetings as early as next week.
The second source adds that a number of Tottenham stars have asked Zaniolo to move to Spurs.
Spurs interested in Nicolo Zaniolo
Spurs are looking into Roma's Nicolo Zaniolo as he could be available this summer.
Roma clashed with the north London club in a friendly last Saturday. And it was there that a Spurs cohort helped to reel in Conte’s transfer target.
The 23-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent throughout his Roma career. However, two serious knee injuries mean he wants to prove himself consistently this season.
Tottenham could also offer Japhet Tanganga and Giovani Lo Celso to Roma, with Paratici considering all options. But if no deal can be thrashed out, Roma will resume fresh Zaniolo contract talks.
