Euro Paper Talk: Tottenham to use top star as bait in deal for dazzling Inter Milan right wing-back; AC Milan waiting on Chelsea, City bids for forward

Denzel Dumfries, Leonardo Spinazzola, Inter Milan v Roma, October 2022

Antonio Conte is reportedly done with Tottenham’s right wing-back options and will offer a top star in a swap proposal for an outstanding Inter Milan defender, while Friday’s Euro Paper Talk claims AC Milan are ready for Chelsea and Manchester City to try and sign a prized forward.

Antonio Conte reportedly wants Tottenham to sign Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries in a deal that could see Emerson Royal move in the opposite direction.

Conte landed Ivan Perisic from his old club on a free last summer and continues to be linked with Inter centre-backs Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan De Vrij. But it appears he has another San Siro star on his radar in the shape of Dumfries.

The Spurs chief currently alternates between Emerson and Royal for the right wing-back spot, although Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon can also play there at a push. The odd man appears to be Djed Spence, who has hardly got a look in this season.

Emerson is Conte’s top option, however, although the Brazilian continues to be inconsistent.

He had a shocker in the 3-2 win at Bournemouth last weekend and was dropped for the midweek Champions League win over Marseille, a game in which he made a big impression off the bench as Tottenham chased qualification.

Dumfries a stronger option for Conte

But now a report from Italian outlet CMW claims Conte wants to put an end to all the chopping and changing by bringing in a world-class option on the right in Dumfries.

The Netherlands international has made a big impression since joining Inter in 2021. Indeed, he’s had a hand in 16 goals in just 62 games for the Serie A giants.

Dumfries is currently valued at around £35million. However, CMW adds that Spurs are hopeful of landing the player for around £20m plus Emerson.

At this stage, there is no confirmation of Inter actually expressing any interest in the Tottenham man. But if they do, it would be crazy for the north London club not to try and strike a deal, given Emerson’s inconsistent performances.

The arrival of Dumfries would bring an end to any selection issues at right wing-back, while Conte can then turn his attention to getting another centre-back and a playmaker on board.
