Euro Paper Talk: Tottenham make European giants sweat with ‘real talks’ for Prem-pushing star; Key Chelsea deal questioned

Yannick Carrasco, Thomas Meunier, Belgium warm-up June 2021

Tottenham are putting a European giant under pressure with their interest in a versatile star, while a Chelsea deal is brought into question – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

YANNICK CARRASCO IN TOTTENHAM CROSSHAIRS

Tottenham are in concrete talks with Atletico Madrid over a deal for Yannick Carrasco and the La Liga side are concerned for his future, reports say.

Spurs have looked for a while like being done in the summer transfer market. After seven signings, many of those have impressed and helped the north London club remain unbeaten after four Premier League games.

But talk of wing-back signings has failed to stop throughout the past few weeks. Tottenham manager Antonio Conte brought in and then loaned out Destiny Udogie as his third addition in that area.

Before that, Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence both signed and have featured this term.

However, reports on Tuesday talked of Conte’s interest in Belgium international Carrasco, who can play as a wing-back.

And the latest from transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri is that the 28-year-old wants ‘to discover’ the Premier League. Tavolieri adds that there are ‘real talks’ ongoing between Spurs and Atletico.

That is despite concerns for Tottenham about reaching Carrasco‘s £51.2million release clause. Although, the claims on Tuesday said that Tottenham could get a deal for ‘far less’.

ATLETICO HAVE CARRASCO, TOTTENHAM CONCERNS

Meanwhile, Marca reports that ‘concern is inevitable’ at Atletico, who seemingly want to shut themselves off from any more transfer activity and hope their key player is still with them.

Boss Diego Simeone said of Carrasco’s future: “You cannot imagine it. It is normal that for all the coaches, except for two or three clubs to which this does not usually happen, the rest of us are in a last-minute situation that something could happen that the clubs understand is important to do.

“We are workers of the club, we are not the owners, and we are waiting for them to finish. Hopefully we can finish [with] those of us who are here today.”

Carrasco has only made one La Liga start for Atletico in the early stages of this season, instead making two substitute appearances. Atletico could let him go to allow for breathing room on La Liga’s salary cap.
