Euro Paper Talk: £50m LaLiga star to fill problem Tottenham position in major Conte upgrade; Juve chief touches down in London to seal Chelsea transfer

Yannick Carrasco, Renan Lodi, Atletico Madrid, April 2022.

Tottenham are once again showing concrete interest in signing versatile Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco, as Antonio Conte looks to fix a problem position, while Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk claims that Juventus are closing in on the signing of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.

YANNICK CARRASCO TO GIVE TOTTENHAM UPGRADE

Tottenham are reportedly showing ‘concrete’ interest in striking a deal for Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco this summer.

Spurs sporting director Fabio Paratici was in contact with the player back in January, when it was claimed that the north London club were ready to pay the wide man’s €60m (£50.8m) release clause.

However, the potential deal fell through over Atletico’s insistence that the Belgium star was going nowhere.

But now El Chiringuito journalist Juanfe Sanz claims that Carrasco has received another offer from Spurs.

There is no mention as to whether Tottenham are looking to match his exit clause again. Indeed, there is every likelihood they will offer substantially less in order to test the water over Atletico’s resolve again.

Conte eyeing new wing-backs

Carrasco is being viewed as a potential right wing-back upgrade in Antonio Conte’s system. That is down to the fact that the Italian still remains unconvinced by both Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

The duo have both enjoyed stronger second halves of the campaign. Indeed, Doherty was in fine form before injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

But it appears that Conte wants a more proven player in the position and Carrasco fits the bill.

The 28-year-old is approaching 400 senior games and was part of the Atletico side that win LaLiga last season.

He has also enjoyed another impressive season, notching six goals and adding seven assists in 43 games this term.

Carrasco’s current contract runs out in 2024 so Atletico may be happy to accept a lower offer, knowing his price tag will drop the nearer he gets to his deal ending.
