Everton among Prem quartet rivalling Newcastle for Tottenham transfer gamble worth taking

Dele Alli, Bryan Gil, Vitesse Arnhem v Tottenham October 2021

Dele Alli is attracting interest from five Premier League clubs if he is to leave Tottenham Hotspur this month, according to reports.

This time last year, Alli’s Tottenham future was already in question when PSG tried to sign him. The reunion with Mauricio Pochettino never materialised and he has been stuck at Spurs ever since.

Failing to let him go may be a decision Tottenham have come to regret. The playmaker has not been able to show his talents since, finishing last season without a Premier League goal. This term, he has one goal from 10 league appearances.

Alli is a shadow of the player he once was, but at 25 years old it is not too late to salvage his career. There is a growing acceptance, though, that he may need to leave Tottenham to do so.

In that regard, a number of clubs have been tipped to offer him an alternative platform. One of the main links has been with Newcastle United, who have reportedly identified him as an alternative target to Jesse Lingard.

Newcastle’s interest is backed up by the Daily Mail, who reveal though that Everton, Brighton and Burnley are also competing for Alli’s signature.

Alternatively, Borussia Dortmund could try to take him to Germany, although that solution is deemed to be less likely.

Instead, it will be up to the Premier League quartet to battle for Alli should he be available on loan. His contract with Tottenham runs until 2024.

The Telegraph confirm Brighton’s interest, as well as some from Germany (without naming Dortmund). They also add a fifth Premier League admirer, Southampton, into the mix for his signature.

However, it is as yet unclear if they would be willing to cover his wages, worth more than £100,000-per-week.

Dele Alli gets transfer advice from Roy Keane

Dele Alli, Tottenham midfielder's future in doubt, TEAMtalk

Roy Keane insists the time is right for Dele Alli to leave Tottenham after offering the midfielder some solid advice over what he needs to do next.

Keane claims a move away from Tottenham must happen this month for Alli. He insists only a fresh start can help reignite his stalling career and he needs to do so as soon as possible.

“I think the kid’s lost the eye of the tiger,” Keane told Sky Sports. “I think sometimes you have to let a kid go.”

“That’s the nature of football. You’ve done your time here, you’ve obviously lost your way, be good to the kid, you’ve been a good signing for us.

“They paid £5m for him. Let the kid go.”

And when quizzed on Alli’s next move, Keane reckons a switch to Newcastle will prove a smart move.

“[He could] get his career going up there,” Keane added. “The fans would love him if he comes in.”

But it is now clear that Newcastle, although frontrunners, are not the only side hoping to take Alli in the closing stages of the transfer window.
