Tottenham transfer news: Massive January coup on as Serie A wing-back signing presents ‘ideal scenario’ for Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte chats to Fabio Paratici of Tottenham

TEAMtalk has learned that Tottenham are keeping close tabs on an Inter Milan defensive star as Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte try and seal a potential January coup.

The north London club are expected to be active in the new year transfer window, with a centre-back and a creative midfielder the main areas Conte is focused on. However, if an opportunity presents itself at right wing-back then Spurs are ready to take it.

And that is where Inter and Netherlands star Denzel Dumfries enters the equation.

The Dutchman has been on Tottenham’s radar for the last few months. And it’s since emerged that the San Siro club are ready to do business at a figure in the region of £26million.

And while Spurs are not the only club to have been linked with the 26-year-old, TEAMtalk’s transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, has revealed what is going down an Inter at the moment and who they are willing to let leave.

Bailey revealed: “A lot is going on at Inter Milan. The word from around the club is that they need a big sale by the summer. That was pencilled as being Milan Skriniar but it won’t be him now. He is either signing a new big contract or leaving on a Bosman free next summer.

“That means next in line is Dumfries, who has a lot of interest emerging. We know Chelsea liked him and held talks in the summer. They want a high calibre alternative to Reece James and he certainly ticks that box.

Inter contemplating sale and loan return

“Inter would contemplate a deal that could see him sold in January but then loaned back to Inter. And that is something Chelsea have done before with the likes of Christian Pulisic and are lining up now for Christopher Nkunku so, that could be ideal for them.

“Manchester United are another very much in the market for a right-back.

“The latest interest is emerging from Tottenham and it is not a surprise. We know that Matt Doherty and summer signing Djed Spence are not the sort of full-backs Antonio Conte is keen on. Whilst Emerson Royal is also not seen as the long-term option for them.

“Someone who can get forward at will, like Dumfries, is the ideal scenario for Spurs and they are now keeping close tabs on the situation.”

Dumfries would indeed be a significant upgrade on what Tottenham already have. Indeed, in some ways he is Emerson and Doherty rolled into one, only with added quality.

The real mystery is why Spence cannot get a go under Conte at all.

Tottenham chased the former Middlesbrough man for almost two years before finally landing him. However, Conte clearly views him as one for the future who cannot be trusted in the now.

Spurs fans have been left frustrated though, as Spence has all the attributes to be a top wing-back.
