Fabio Paratici pushing to beat Liverpool to dynamic Tottenham winger signing but huge fee a problem

Fabio Paratici, August 2022

Sporting director Fabio Paratici is reportedly trying to push through a Tottenham transfer for a dynamic Serie A winger who has been firmly on Liverpool’s radar all season.

Napoli attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been hugely impressive in Serie A and the Champions League this season, leading to interest from a number of clubs.

However, it’s been Liverpool who lead the way for the Georgian, who stood out in two games against the Reds in Europe this term.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is known to be a huge fan of the player. To that end, he wants to add Kvaratskhelia to his current Anfield attacking options.

The 21-year-old has scored eight goals and added eight assists in Serie A and the Champions League this season and is currently Italian football’s best-performing player by average match rating.

And despite Tottenham being well stocked in the wide areas, with Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and, to a lesser extent, Richarlison all quality performers on the wing, it’s thought that Paratici wants to complete a real coup by nabbing Kvaratskhelia ahead of Liverpool.

Calciomercato reports that Napoli are aware of strong interest in the player. Indeed, a recent report suggested the Naples outfit are ready to double the player’s wages in an effort to try and keep him.

Kvaratskhelia will not come cheap

Kvaratskhelia has been labelled ‘unplayable’ and a ‘superstar in the making’ by the Italian media this season. With that in mind, any potential sale will cost suitors a whopping €100m (£88m).

That sort of figure would mean Spurs having to smash their transfer record for the Georgia international.

And while that is highly unlikely to happen in the January window, there is the potential for a summer deal. However, Daniel Levy is certain to try and negotiate that figure down.

Tottenham are back in action on Boxing Day when they head to Brentford in the early Premier League clash.
