Tottenham transfer news: Fabio Paratici ready to move for £27m LaLiga winner as clock ticks down on Hugo Lloris

Jan Oblak, Slovenia

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak is reportedly attracting major interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

The 29-year-old’s current contract runs out in 2023, although there were rumours over the summer that the stopper had agreed a new deal with the LaLiga outfit until 2025.

Nothing was officially confirmed by Atletico, however, leaving doubts over Oblak’s long-term future in Madrid.

And a report from Fichajes states that Spurs are looking at a deal for the experienced No.1.

The report states that Fabio Paratici wants a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, who is six years older than Oblak.

The doubts over the Slovenia international’s contract situation mean he could be available for nothing next summer.

Clubs outside of Spain would also be able to agree a pre-contract with the player from January 2023.

Fichajes adds that Atletico will demand a fee of around £27million for Oblak, who has been at the Wanda Metropolitano since 2014. There have also been suggestions that Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez could replace him.

Spurs are not the only club linked with a move for Oblak, however. Indeed, Manchester United have been tipped to make a move of their own for the outstanding keeper.

The report states: “The clubs that have shown interest in signing the Slovenian goalkeeper are Manchester United, who are closely following him to replace David De Gea, and Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking for a goalkeeper who can replace Hugo Lloris”.

Oblak has been performing at a high level for club and country for a number of years. To that end, there is no doubt he would be a good fit at Tottenham.

However, it’s unclear if Spurs are willing to cough up the £27m asking price for a player who could eventually sign on a free.

Lloris not done at Tottenham just yet

Indeed, it’s not like Lloris has had a woeful start to the new season and needs replacing imminently.

Tottenham are currently third in the Premier League table and have conceded seven goals in as many games.

The Frenchman has looked sharp this season and his performance in the 6-2 win over Leicester was outstanding.

Despite the result suggesting a Spurs rout over the Foxes, Lloris had to make several superb stops. That was before Son Heung-min eventually stole the show with his hat-trick off the bench.

Lloris could, however, be missing for Saturday’s north London derby with Arsenal.

A victory over the Gunners at The Emirates would see Spurs leapfrog their rivals at the top of the Premier League table.

Lloris, though, suffered a thigh injury in the victory over Leicester and is considered doubtful for the game.

His absence would come as a massive blow to Antonio Conte. But it will give a chance for summer signing Fraser Forster to make his mark on Tottenham’s biggest game of the season.

Conte will now be keeping his fingers crossed that his international stars all return unscathed for the clash.
