Former Arsenal star brutally rejects Fabio Paratici’s offer as Tottenham consider alternative options

Danilo of Juventus salutes the fans as he leaves the field of play with team mate Wojciech Szczesny following the final whistle of the Serie A match at Allianz Stadium, Turin.

Fabio Paratici has plenty of work to do ahead of the summer transfer window as Tottenham are keen on strengthening several positions in their side.

It’s no secret that Spurs are after another goalkeeper as Hugo Lloris is now in the twilight of his career in North London. Paratici has considered several players for this position.

One of the most notable links which appeared over the past months was to Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The former Arsenal goalkeeper already has several strong ties to North London.

Paratici was keen on a move for the Juventus goalkeeper in January. However, Tottenham were not successful when in pursuit of the 32-year-old.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Paratici would have ‘gladly taken’ the former Arsenal goalkeeper. Their interest didn’t last long though as Paratici was met by a ‘sharp no’ from the player.

The goalkeeper has a deal with Juventus which runs until 2024. He has competed alongside Mattia Perin this season for the number one spot.

The report also claims that Szczesny is focused on Juventus and afterwards is looking to ‘make the most of an experience in America, in the MLS, before finally ending his career.’

Sorting out the goalkeeping department will be a priority for Tottenham in the summer. While Lloris does have another year remaining on his deal, they are ready to pursue a new goalkeeper.

In the Premier League this season, Antonio Conte’s side have conceded 36 goals. For context, that is more than any other side in the top half of the table.

Conte sides of years gone by have been built upon defensive solidity and this is a clear weakness in their game at this point in time.

Tottenham will consider other options

With a move for Szczesny now off the cards, they will be forced to look elsewhere. Jordan Pickford had also been linked, but his fresh deal at Everton puts doubt over a summer move.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Spurs have been linked with Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan with Nottingham Forest.

The Man Utd loanee has been out of action since January with an injury. As Keylor Navas is now their number one, Henderson might find it tough to get back into the frame.

His long-term future at Old Trafford is also in doubt after he hit out at Red Devils for the treatment he received in the previous season.

Guglielmo Vicario is another name that has popped up on their radar. The Empoli goalkeeper has kept seven clean sheets in Serie A this season and has attracted attention.

The 26-year-old is a target for Tottenham, alongside Juventus and Roma. Both Vicario and Henderson are over 10 years younger than Lloris and would future-proof the goalkeeping department.

Tottenham certainly aren’t short of goalkeeping options to target in the summer, but they will be keen on securing a deal in good time ahead of the new season.
