Tottenham get boost in pursuit of £50m Barcelona attacker as Levy looks to capitalise on financial woes

Ferran Torres, Gavi and Ansu Fati of Barcelona

Barcelona are reportedly open to selling Ferran Torres this summer, with the attacker being linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Manchester City star is allegedly one of three stars Xavi is willing to offload, as the Spanish giants look to bring in some much-needed revenue for their own additions.

Tottenham could certainly do with some more attacking creativity in their squad, so it would be no surprise to see them make a move for Torres in the coming months.

This is according to Spanish outlet Sportwho claim that Torres, along with Ansu Fati and Arsenal-linked winger Raphinha, could all leave the Catalans this summer.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Spurs are very interested in making a move for the ex-City man, although, he still allegedly wants a chance to prove himself in LaLiga.

Indeed, the majority of Torres’ Barca career has so far failed to go to plan, after finding himself behind the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski in the pecking order.

However, even if he does want to stay with the Spanish giants, he may not have any choice in the matter if Xavi looks to force him out, as suggested.

Torres could be a big signing for Spurs

Tottenham supporters have endured another disappointing campaign, after crashing out of all major competitions already and now could struggle to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Cristian Stellini has taken charge of the London club until the end of the season after Antonio Conte was sacked in March, so Daniel Levy is currently on the hunt for a new permanent manager as well as new players.

While attacking players such as Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son and Richarlison have put in some decent performances this term, Spurs still seem to lack the cutting edge required to push for titles and trophies.

With that in mind, Torres could potentially prove to be an excellent addition – as a player who has experience of success in the Premier League.

In 43 appearances across all competitions for Man City, the Spain international scored 16 goals and made four assists, giving him an impressive average of 0.47 goal contributions per game.

Torres also played his role in helping Pep Guardiola’s side to Premier League and League Cup victory in 2021, so he could potentially help bring a winning mentality to the Tottenham dressing room.

Even with Barca reportedly willing to sell, they still value the 23-year-old at approximately £50m, so Spurs will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.
