Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has admitted he made his decision to leave the club on loan for Villarreal in January quickly.

Lo Celso never truly reached the heights expected of him at Spurs. The midfielder had a direct hand in just 14 goals in 84 appearances for the club.

The Argentinian had much more of an impact in Spain before his move. He scored nine goals and registered five assists for Real Betis the season prior to making the switch to England.

As such, his decision to return to Spain on loan comes as no surprise. Lo Celso himself has admitted the decision to depart Spurs on loan was one he arrived at quickly.

“This [Villarreal] is a club that looks very serious and orderly, that football-wise I really like what I see,” he told Sport.

“I like its philosophy and its idea of the game, to which is added that I already knew the coach. So I put everything on the scale and made up my mind very quickly.”

While that is an endorsement of Villarreal, the decision to leave Spurs quickly does not reflect well on the club.

Could Harry Kane leave Tottenham this summer

Harry Kane is again rumoured to want to leave Tottenham this summer as Napoli striker main target or replace Kane

Especially not as Lo Celso was one of four players to depart on loan in January.

“My idea is to give my best in every game, and we’ll see what the future holds. I want to enjoy this and my new teammates during this period, I want to do my best,” Lo Celso added.

Lo Celso and Gil depart on loan

Bryan Gil was another member of the Spurs squad that departed in January. Manager Antonio Conte had his say on the initial signing of Gil.

“You know that I like to tell the truth and for sure we’re talking about a really good player in Gil, because he has good quality and he understands football quickly,” he said.

“In this moment, for sure this league is very tough. This league is different. If you compare this league with other leagues, you play another sport here.

Indeed, Conte seems to suggest a Premier League move was premature in the Spaniard’s career.
