Harry Kane is open to talking to Tottenham about a new contract following their standout summer business, with Spurs waiting for the right time to strike.
The 28-year-old only has two years left on his contract and is approaching his biggest career crossroads. While he is chasing down the goalscoring records for Tottenham, England and the Premier League, he still has no trophies to show for it.
Last summer, he tried to leave north London, but Spurs resisted Manchester City’s approaches.
And from there, Kane’s message to Tottenham was clear: show real ambition and progress and, crucially, win major silverware.
And since Antonio Conte has been at the helm, Spurs have showed every sign of ambition Kane desires.
As a result, Football.London claims that the England captain is now willing to talk about a new deal. The talks have not taken place yet amid the club getting going again in pre-season.
The busy summer transfer window is still ongoing and has also put contract talks with Kane – not a burning priority – on hold.
However, Tottenham are now waiting for the right time to open talks, with the report saying an offer will definitely arrive.
Conte stamps his mark on Tottenham
Conte first stamped his mark on Spurs with the signings of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in January. The former Juventus pair played a vital role in helping Tottenham to a top-four Premier League finish.
And that has put the north London club back amongst Europe’s elite in the Champions League in the upcoming season.
But Conte has looked to cement that progress with six new signings. Former Everton striker Richarlison could end up costing £60million after add-ons, while two wing-backs have also arrived. Conte has further bolstered his midfield with ex-Brighton man Yves Bissouma.
Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for Kane in a potential roadblock to a new contract.
But Bayern chief Oliver Kahn has simply said of a move: “I can just say that Harry Kane is an outstanding striker who is now under contract at Tottenham.”
Harry Kane contract vital for Spurs
Tottenham needed something of a lifeline to convince Kane to stay and Conte could well be delivering that.
There are real signs of progress for the north London club, especially with the Champions League returning.
Will Harry Kane ever leave Spurs?
Could we ever see Harry Kane leave Tottenham?
Amid the Bayern Munich transfer links with Kane, the latest contract news is a massive boost.
From trying his hardest to leave Spurs last summer to potentially signing the most important contract of his career would be a defining moment for the club and the player.
