Harry Kane ‘discussed’ by new European contender who could set up sensational reunion to rile Tottenham twice

Tottenham striker Harry Kane

Real Madrid have reportedly joined the race for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane – and the latest update has revealed why it might become doubly frustrating for the Premier League side.

Kane is facing an uncertain future as the summer transfer window approaches. By then, there will only be one year remaining on his contract in north London. Tottenham are trying to convince him to stay for longer, but could be bracing themselves for interest in his services.

For example, TEAMtalk has already been told that a move to Man Utd could well be a realistic possibility for the England captain. After all, the Red Devils are in the market for a new centre-forward.

If Kane wants to continue his pursuit of the all-time Premier League goalscoring record, Man Utd might be a likely destination.

But he also has suitors outside of England, such as German giants Bayern Munich. And now, the Daily Mail is reporting that Real Madrid have “discussed” the idea of taking Kane to Spain instead.

The reigning La Liga champions are willing to extend the contract of their own centre-forward, Karim Benzema, beyond the end of this season. However, they are still searching for other solutions up front.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe might be on their radar still, for one. But Kane has also come to their attention as a potential reinforcement.

They are basing their interest on a belief that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may prefer to sell Kane abroad if he has to, rather than to a Premier League rival.

Therefore, Real Madrid might be one of the main bidders for Kane this summer if they firm up their interest in the 29-year-old.

Real Madrid consider Pochettino as well as Harry Kane

Interestingly, the report adds that the move could become part of a sensational reunion for Kane. Indeed, Los Blancos are considering Mauricio Pochettino as their potential next manager if they move on from Carlo Ancelotti.

Pochettino managed Tottenham between 2014 and 2019. He has recently been pencilled in as someone who could return for a second spell at the club if Antonio Conte leaves at the end of the season, as is expected.

Hence, both Pochettino and Kane could slip from Tottenham’s grasp if things pan out in a certain way for Real Madrid.

Kane previously scored 169 goals in the 242 appearances that Pochettino gave him for Tottenham. Only Jose Mourinho inspired a better goals-to-games ratio from the striker in his Spurs career so far.

Therefore, if Tottenham were able to bring Pochettino back, it might have a positive impact on them keeping Kane. But if Real Madrid secure the Argentine tactician’s services instead, it could add to the appeal of Spurs’ number 10 following suit.

Hence, Madrid may be ones to watch in the race for Kane. One thing is clear: he could easily become one of the focal points of the upcoming transfer window.
