Harry Kane factor to play major role in Tottenham securing ‘incredible’ attacking midfielder this summer

Harry Kane warms up before Tottenham game

Tottenham have seemingly been told that they have a realistic chance of signing one of their top targets this summer because he wants to play with Harry Kane.

Ange Postecoglou has made adding a creative midfielder to his squad one of his top priorities this summer after Spurs lacked any sort of flair in their engine room once Rodrigo Bentancur was injured in February and missed the remainder of the season.

That is where Leicester and England star James Maddison comes in, with Tottenham well known to be in a fight with Newcastle for the 26-year-old.

The Magpies are still thought to be the frontrunners for his signature, given they can provide Maddison with Champions League football. However, it appears that Postecoglou has an attraction of his own – if Kane remains in north London.

The England skipper remains a target for Real Madrid, after Manchester United reportedly ended their interest, although a fresh report states PSG have also entered the running to sign the Tottenham talisman.

But if Kane stays, it appears the north London side have a genuine chance of beating Newcastle to Maddison.

Football Transfers states that ‘Maddison is said to be a big admirer of Kane and the prospect of playing with him at the club level is attractive to the attacking midfielder’.

The pair are currently away on international duty and both started the win in Malta on Friday evening.

And, with Gareth Southgate joking that there has been some ‘tapping-up’ going on while the players have been away from the clubs, there is every chance some form of conversation has taken place.

Foxes still demanding £60m for Maddison

Maddison will be on the move this summer after Leicester’s relegation last season, with the Foxes wanting £60million for a sale.

The former Norwich man has previously been described as an ‘incredible player’ by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and there is little doubt that he would bring something completely different to Postecoglou’s midfield.

Maddison has scored 43 goals and provided 32 assists in 163 Premier League games for Leicester. He was also a massive shining light in a disastrous Foxes campaign, netting 10 times and adding a further nine assists.

Tottenham could only dream about those sort of figures from their midfield, but if Kane stays then it looks like there might be a chance of getting Maddison on board.
