Harry Kane: Tottenham mood over future revealed, as Fabio Paratici deflects key question to Antonio Conte

Harry Kane warming up for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are “very optimistic” that Harry Kane will stay at the club, according to director of football Fabio Paratici.

Kane’s future has been a big topic for Tottenham over the past year or so. In the summer of 2021, he appeared to want to leave. Manchester City were showing a strong interest in him at the time.

However, Tottenham held firm with their valuation and kept the striker in their squad. Since the appointment of Antonio Conte as head coach last November, they have been showing more ambition.

Kane seems more settled with Tottenham now. Although, with his contract due to expire in 2024, there have still been questions about his long-term future.

The Manchester City ship has seemingly sailed now, since they have signed Erling Haaland instead. Kane’s most likely suitor at this moment in time would appear to be Bayern Munich.

After selling Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona in the summer, the Bundesliga champions might be in the market for another centre-forward in 2023.

They effectively replaced Lewandowski with former Liverpool winger Sadio Mane. Although capable of operating centrally, as he did in his latter days in the Premier League, the Senegal international might be better playing out wide in support of a natural centre-forward.

Bayern Munich are therefore looking at Kane as a potential reinforcement. Earlier this week, he described them as a “top, top club” but insisted his focus and concentration was fully on the task at hand with Tottenham.

Still, he didn’t rule a departure out in exact terms. Hence, Tottenham will be trying to tie him down to a longer term contract to send a clear message about his future.

And they are seemingly confident that they can get him to put pen to paper on updated terms.

Tottenham ‘confident’ over Harry Kane future

Speaking before a 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday night, in which Kane scored a penalty (but missed another) and made an assist for one of Son Heung-min’s two goals, managing director of football Paratici explained where Tottenham are at in their efforts to keep the England captain.

Paratici told Sky Sport Italia: “Kane is the symbol of this club, the best scorer in history and captain of England.

“We are confident and always in contact. There is a great rapport between him and the club. We are very optimistic.”

Kane is still the main man in the Tottenham attack, which has increased in number over the past year. Whereas before he had a partnership with Son, now he also has Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski to supply chances and keep him on his toes.

With the wealth of options at his disposal, it could he hard for Conte to keep them all happy. But it is a nice problem to have for the Italian tactician.

Paratici passes selection question onto Conte

Asked about how they can all compete together, Paratici replied: “This is more a question for Antonio.

“We are happy to have them. We play in a tough and intense championship where you have to have footballers of a certain level if you want to compete.

“This year we have added Richarlison, last January Kulusevski and let’s not forget that Lucas [Moura] is returning as well. We have a good roster.”

Harry Kane is, unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s top scorer this season with nine goals in all competitions so far. Son is closest behind him with five goals, while Richarlison has two to his name since signing from Everton.

Kane’s next appearance for Tottenham will be his 400th. He has scored a total of 257 goals for them to date.

Should all go to plan, there could be many more to come as the 29-year-old continues his peak years.
