Harry Kane: Postecoglou breaks silence on Tottenham plan ahead of crunch talks with striker next week

Tottenham striker Harry Kane

Harry Kane will hold serious discussions with Tottenham Hotspur about his future at the club next week, according to reports.

Kane could leave Tottenham this summer, since he has entered the final year of his contract. He is believed to be interested in a move to Bayern Munich, despite having the all-time Premier League goalscoring record in his sights.

Reports have even gone as far as saying Kane has an agreement in principle with Bayern about joining them. The main obstacle, though, would be his transfer fee.

Despite the lack of time remaining on his contract and the fact he will start next season as a 30-year-old, Tottenham still have a high asking price for their all-time leading marksman.

Nevertheless, they face a similar scenario to a couple of years ago, when Kane began pushing for a move to Manchester City that never materialised.

In 2021, Kane reported back to pre-season training later than expected, fuelling speculation that he was trying to force his exit.

It appears there will be no repeat of those tactics this year, though, since the Evening Standard claims Kane will be back at Tottenham for some crunch talks next week.

The England captain will speak to chairman Daniel Levy and new manager Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham tabled their own offer to improve his contract.

While Kane ‘has not ruled out’ staying with Spurs via a new deal, doing so seems to be the ‘least likely scenario’ as things stand, per the report.

Postecoglou hoping to benefit from Harry Kane goals

Regardless, Postecoglou has begun to envisage his team with Kane in it. Speaking at a question-and-answer session with supporters, the new head coach has admitted his hopes that he can rely on Kane (and Son Heung-min) as a key goalscorer next season.

“Hopefully Harry and Sonny score bags of goals and they’re not the only ones,” said Postecoglou.

“There’s no such thing as an ugly goal. Every time that ball crosses the line, the emotion that it brings to people, I love.

“It’s still the best part of the game for me. It unites people. It unites strangers – it doesn’t matter who you’re standing next to when the ball goes across that line, that’s who you’re hugging.

“So hopefully the boys score bags of goals.”

Kane and Postecoglou are expected to meet for the first time next week. Pre-season is already underway for players who were not on international duty after the end of the 2022-23 season, unlike Kane.
