Tottenham striker Harry Kane could become the best-paid player in the club’s history if he rejects interest from two major sides to remain in north London, according to a report.

Kane’s future is far from certain after he entered the final 12 months of his Tottenham contract. Tottenham remain hopeful of keeping him by agreeing fresh terms, although they cannot offer him European football for next season or the regular silverware which he desires.

Manchester United have looked into signing Kane but have been put off by Tottenham’s £100million asking price, which stems from them not wanting to improve a direct Premier League rival.

This has resulted in Bayern pushing hardest to snare England’s all-time record goalscorer. The German champions have already had a £60m offer rejected and are planning to return with a new bid worth between £68-70m. Although, this still does not meet Spurs’ demands and is highly likely to be rejected.

Reports on Monday revealed Paris Saint-Germain are preparing to battle Bayern for Kane. The Ligue 1 giants will have to fill a big hole in their attack if Kylian Mbappe leaves for Real Madrid. And it has been suggested that PSG have already drawn up a £260,000-a-week contract to offer Kane.

Despite the growing interest in the 29-year-old, there is still some hope for Spurs fans that he will be staying put. As per Matt Law of The Telegraph, the Spurs hierarchy have come up with a hugely enticing contract of their own to try and keep Kane.

Should he decide to reject Bayern and PSG and stay at Spurs, then he will be handed a £400k-per-week deal.

Such a contract would make the lethal forward the best-paid player in Spurs’ history. Gareth Bale was on £600k a week during his loan spell at Spurs, although much of this was subsidised by his parent club Real Madrid.

Harry Kane nearing big Tottenham decision

This massive contract offer is a huge signal of intent from Spurs. Although, Law does state that Kane’s future will not be determined by money.

He is prioritising trophies and the chance to play in the Champions League at this crucial stage of his career.

Spurs will be able to keep Kane if new manager Ange Postecoglou can convince him of the project, which will aim to get the club back into the top four and hopefully end their wait for silverware.

Although, Kane has heard this before from previous managers such as Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. Those two serial winners were unable to end Spurs’ trophy drought.

Postecoglou will hold his first meeting with Kane on Wednesday, once the England skipper returns from holiday.

When asked about Kane’s future recently, the coach said: “I haven’t had any assurances and I wouldn’t expect any assurances, because when you’re dealing with these kinds of things you’re never dealing with definites or certainties.

“I just kind of go along and try to concentrate on the things I know right now. What I know right now is that Harry is part of this squad and he’s looking forward to coming back to training and being amongst these players and starting to work together.”

Postecoglou added that Kane is ‘one of the best players in the world’ and that he ‘wants Harry here’ to help make Spurs successful.

It looks set to be an important few weeks as Kane decides whether his future lies at his boyhood club, or if he should leave for a European giant and pursue trophies.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s Transfer Gossip includes Spurs making progress as they look to bring in a new defender.
