Tottenham settle on lethal forward as Harry Kane replacement, with Conte set for ‘incredible domino of strikers’
Tottenham will reportedly take part in an ‘incredible domino of strikers’ next summer, with Harry Kane set to be replaced by an unstoppable Serie A attacker.
Kane has been regularly linked with a move to Bayern Munich in recent months. While Bayern can rely on Sadio Mane and the in-form Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting up front, reports claim they still need a true successor for Robert Lewandowski to spearhead the attack. And Kane appears to be the best fit.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side are buoyed by the fact Kane’s Tottenham contract runs out in June 2024. This means Tottenham may have to sell for a reduced price next summer if the Englishman reveals his desire to move on.
Of course, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is confident about retaining Kane’s services. He has a strong affinity for the club after coming through their academy setup.
And having Antonio Conte sign a new deal could convince Kane to follow suit and pledge his allegiance to the north London outfit.
The only thing that may tempt Kane away from Spurs is the offer of silverware, something he is yet to pick up amid Spurs’ trophy drought.
Bayern therefore represent an obvious threat as they have won the Bundesliga title in each of the last 10 seasons. They have also won the Champions League/European Cup six times, something Spurs have never achieved.
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti once again brings up the possibility of Kane moving to Bavaria. He claims the transfer could go through next summer and will set off an ‘incredible domino of strikers’ for Conte.
Spurs eye Napoli man as Harry Kane replacement
The Spurs boss will have to deal with the massive hole left by Kane’s exit. The 29-year-old has formed a brilliant partnership with Son Heung-min and would be a massive miss for Spurs.
However, Levy and director of football Fabio Paratici could land a hugely impressive attacker to replace Kane.
Galetti claims Victor Osimhen of Napoli is ‘the ideal replacement for Kane’. Osimhen has proven himself to be an unstoppable striker in Italy, registering 27 goals in 44 appearances over the last two seasons.
The Nigerian is reportedly on Manchester United’s radar as they look for Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor. But now it seems Spurs will rival Man Utd for Osimhen.
Galetti states Osimhen’s move to Spurs may go through at the end of the current season, just like Kane’s switch to Bayern.
However, the journalist doesn’t go as far as revealing what kind of bid Napoli would accept for Osimhen.
Napoli could hold off Spurs advances
What we know from previous reports on the 23-year-old is that he won’t come cheap. His Napoli terms run until 2025, putting them in a strong negotiating position.
The Italian outfit are also at the top of the Serie A table and hoping to end their long wait for a league crown. If they win the trophy, they will not want to scupper more success in the future by selling Osimhen.
These factors mean the star will not move for less than £70m. And his potential price tag has even been put as high as €100m (£87.3m).
Osimhen’s record from recent years suggests he would be able to replace Kane’s goals. However, Kane’s exit would be a monumental setback for everyone involved with the club.
He is seen as being ‘one of our own’ by those at Spurs. So losing him to a team like Bayern would be a big slap in the face.
Plus, Kane can offer more than just goals now. He drops deep and provides assists for the likes of Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
Osimhen hasn’t proven he is able to play in that deep-lying forward role just yet. This means Spurs could be losing out on a whole method of attack if they let Kane go.
