Harry Kane transfer: Tottenham rocked as £85.9m exit accelerates after striker chooses between Man Utd and Bayern Munich
Harry Kane has signalled who he prefers to join between Man Utd and Bayern Munich, and the club in question are accelerating a move that’s expected to cost no more than £85.9m, per a report.
Retaining their all-time leading scorer is priority number one at Tottenham this summer. However, according to a bombshell update from Sky Germany, Spurs could be on the cusp of losing their talisman.
Kane, 29, has just one year remaining on his current Spurs deal. Tottenham are desperate to thrash out an extension, though heavyweight interest from Man Utd and Bayern Munich has emerged.
Bayern are yet to adequately replace Robert Lewandowski who joined Barcelona last summer. The Bavarians made do with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as a makeshift centre-forward last term and came within an eyelash of relinquishing their Bundesliga crown to Borussia Dortmund.
Man Utd, meanwhile, are still seeking a successor to Cristiano Ronaldo who left for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr mid-season.
Anthony Martial is among those on the chopping block this summer, while Marcus Rashford will return to the left wing once a new striker is signed.
United and Bayern would both dearly love to land a striker of Kane’s calibre. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, it’s Bayern who are not only the preferred choice of Kane, but are also accelerating a move.
Kane prefers Bayern; Tuchel greenlight; €100m move readied
The journalist tweeted that after a fresh round of internal discussions, Bayern have shelved their plans to sign Victor Osimhen and will now go all out to land Kane.
The venture is termed “difficult”, though the German giant have reportedly “got the signal from Kane that Bayern is his preferred destination”.
As such, and with Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel okaying the transfer, the club’s hierarchy are preparing to make their move.
On the subject of cost, it’s claimed Bayern are “optimistic” a transfer can be sealed for €100m “all in”. That equates to around £85.9m, with the price lower than you might expect thanks in large part to Kane’s contract status.
A second update from Plettenberg added further fuel to the fire, with the reporter confirming Bayern are “ready to pay the price” (£85.9m) to sign Kane.
Such a move would smash the Bundesliga transfer record with regards to arrivals. The current mark remains the €80m Bayern paid to sign Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid back in 2019.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein subsequently broke news of Bayern launching their first official bid for Kane to the tune of €70m plus add-ons.
Tottenham rebuffed the offer, though Bayern have shown they mean business and if Plettenberg is correct, they’re prepared to bid far higher if need be.
While news of Kane apparently choosing Bayern and the Germans acting on their interest will be a blow to Man Utd, there may be a silver lining.
Indeed, the Red Devils have also cast their eye on Napoli’s Osimhen and with Bayern reeling back from the Nigerian to pursue Kane, a rival has been removed from the race to snare Osimhen.
