Tottenham hijack £10m deal for Man Utd tormentor with new defender link to prove cup conquerors wrong

Loic Bade and Youssef En-Nesyri

Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to a pursuit of a defender never used by a club who knocked them out of a cup this season, according to a report.

Spurs seriously need to strengthen their defence in the upcoming summer transfer window. They may be fifth in the Premier League table, but they have conceded more goals than anyone else in the top half this season.

For context, Everton are currently only one place above the relegation zone, but Tottenham are only one goal better off than them in terms of how many they have conceded after 31 games.

Of course, Tottenham are on the hunt for a new head coach, who might have their own ideas of how their backline should set up. But as things stand, Cristian Romero looks to be the only centre-back Spurs can rely on.

In the summer, they will be seeking more cover at the back. In that regard, a new link has emerged with on-loan Sevilla centre-back, Loic Bade.

As reported by the Daily Mirror at 10:44 on their live transfer blog, Tottenham are taking a look at the Frenchman, who failed to make a single appearance for Nottingham Forest – the side who ended Spurs’ run in the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle back in November, going on to reach the semi-finals themselves – while on loan there from Rennes in the first half of the season.

In January, Bade switched to Sevilla, where his form has been better. This week, he was among the goalscorers as his new side knocked Man Utd out of the Europa League.

But Sevilla’s domestic form has put their chances of activating their £10m option to buy Bade in doubt. They are currently in the bottom half of La Liga, highly unlikely to qualify for Europe without winning the Europa League. Thus, they may abandon their bid for his signature on a permanent basis.

Tottenham on alert for Loic Bade transfer opportunity

In turn, other clubs will be keeping track of Bade – and Tottenham are apparently among his admirers. In that case, they could give him a second chance to make an impact in the Premier League.

Bade, 23, is due to be under contract with Rennes until 2026 if Sevilla fail to sign him permanently. However, the Ligue 1 side could honour their £10m valuation for his transfer.

A deal might be within reach for other suitors like Tottenham, then. First of all, though, it will be up to Sevilla to make their final decision about whether to keep him or not.

Bade has turned out 16 times for the Spanish club so far since signing for them on temporary terms. He has started 10 of the 11 La Liga matches he has played in.

Staying at Sevilla might make sense for Bade if everything aligns. But if not, Tottenham could have some intriguing plans for him.

Meanwhile, another defender who is being fairly heavily linked with Tottenham ahead of becoming a free agent in the summer is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Evan Ndicka.
