Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has told his players that they must go on another good run or they run the risk of missing on on a top-four finish.
Tottenham’s season has been more up than down since Antonio Conte took charge. However, there are still concerns that a top-four finish could elude them.
Tottenham currently sit in fourth, three points above fifth-placed Manchester United.
They went on a great run of four-straight wins between March and April. Conte’s side scored 14 goals during that four-game winning streak.
However, Spurs were shocked by a 1-0 defeat to Brighton last time out. Skipper Lloris has warned that his side must now go on another good run to secure a place in the top four.
“We don’t have a cushion so we have to go on another run,” he said via the PA.
“But we must take it game by game because if we look too far forward, we can slip in other games.
“We bounce back by winning. In training we’ll prepare as best we can to give us a chance to win, but it is going to be a tough game especially at this period of the season when teams like Brighton are already safe and play with that freedom and without the pressure of the result”
Tottenham do not have the easiest run of fixtures to finish the season with. Liverpool and Arsenal are among their remaining matches.
Lloris desperate not to throw away good work
Lloris is clearly desperate to see his side succeed in the run until the end of the season. What’s more, it is clear that the Brighton loss was a painful one.
“What hurts me the most is, we have suffered so much, and to arrive in this position, it is not the moment to throw away what we have built in the last few weeks,” he said.
“We received a lot of kicks during the season and it is not the time to give this boost to our rivals.
“We have a week to prepare for the next game and I hope this defeat will help the team to finish stronger.”
Indeed, Spurs will hope that they can bounce back from the devastating loss in the next game.
