Inter Milan not out of the woods as Tottenham could return with lucrative bid for star

Alessandro Bastoni, Stefan de Vrij, Inter Milan, August 2022

Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City may each decide to make a lucrative offer for Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni, per a report.

Bastoni has been a reported target of a number of big sides for some time. Indeed, Spurs were reportedly one of the most heavily-linked sides, with a bid being prepped in the summer.

It is clear to see why some top sides want Bastoni. The centre-back is being tipped to fill the shoes of Italy stalwarts Leonadro Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

Despite still just being 23 years old, he has already established himself as one of Serie A’s most important defenders.

Bastoni has made 130 appearances for the Serie A giants since the beginning of his career. He has started the majority of Inter’s 14 games this season.

He has also already established himself as one of the central figures in the next generation of Italian football. Indeed, the centre-back has played for his country 16 times.

Inter will, therefore, be hoping they can keep hold of him for some time.

They might still find it a challenge to retain him, though.

Prem sides could swoop for Bastoni

Three Premier League sides: Spurs, Man Utd and Man City could come in with offers for him soon.

That is according to InterLive, who are reporting that each of those sides could make offers of 50million (£43.6million).

That might be tough for Inter to contend with. A young player may find it difficult to hear of offers of that amount for him from big sides and want to stay put.

That could be to the detriment of Inter for another reason, too.

Bastoni is under contract at Inter until the end of next season. However, if he catches wind that some big names are after him, he may want to run down his contract, though previous reports have pointed to the opposite.

Still, Inter might find themselves in a position where they need to sell soon, or risk losing out on their star for nothing.

Spurs move makes lot of sense

A move to any of Spurs, United or City would be a big one for the young defender. Naturally, there would be benefits to each of those moves, given the size of the clubs.

However, there may be more of an appeal surrounding a move to Spurs than there would the other two sides. Bastoni previously worked under Conte, and had a lot of praise for him.

As such, he could thrive under his management once more. Furthermore, given Conte has managed in Italy, his style of play is likely more similar to what the centre-back is used to than the other sides.

Indeed, the Spurs boss has recruited a number of Serie A players that have done well: Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero to name a few.

With that being said, Bastoni could be the next player to be added to that group.
