January departure ‘very possible’ for Tottenham winger who is ‘desperate’ to return to Spain

Bryan Gil, who is unhappy at Spurs, could reportedly rejoin his former club Valencia on loan in the upcoming transfer window.

The 21-year-old is ‘desperate to return home’ to Spain after playing just six minutes in the Premier League this season, seemingly failing to break into Antonio Conte’s plans.

Valencia have been keen on bringing Gil back to the club, but would reportedly prefer a loan deal rather than a permanent one.

Yesterday, TEAMtalk reported that Sevilla, another of Gil’s former teams, had been considering a move for the youngster.

However, it seems that they will instead opt to buy Lucas Ocampos, who is a more experienced option and therefore more likely to help with their dire league position.

Now though, according to Sport Witness, Spurs are willing to send Gil out on loan in January, which is appealing to another of his former teams: Valencia.

Since arriving from Sevilla on a £25m transfer in 2021, Gil has made only 26 appearances for Spurs, failing to score any goals and making just one assist.

The youngster was touted to have huge potential when he arrived in the Premier League, but so far, that has failed to come to fruition and his lack of appearances seems to be damaging his development.

In January 2022, Gil went on a six-month loan to Valencia, where he was afforded more playing time and seemed much more comfortable, making 17 appearances in total.

Their manager Gennaro Gattuso must have been impressed with the winger, as they are now looking to throw Gil a lifeline and bring him back to his home country once again.

Gil’s second Valencia loan move is dependent on Spurs’ business

Although, it seems achieving the deal will not necessarily be simple. According to Deporte Valenciano, Tottenham have decided that they must buy another attacking player before allowing Gil to leave, especially given the recent injury to Richarlison.

One potential option for Conte could be Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, who Spurs are now reportedly battling Everton for.

It is believed that Valencia wish to sign Gil on a longer loan deal this time, with Gattuso currently trying to negotiate an 18-month move for the winger.

The Spanish club are also unable to match Gil’s full salary, so he would need to take a pay cut, or, Tottenham would have to continue paying part of his wages.

The report states: “If all this happens, which is not crazy and it is very possible that we are not very far away, the man from Cádiz would be a Valencia player again.”

Gil certainly seems more comfortable with LaLiga’s playing style, so this could be a win-win for Valencia and Tottenham as it will allow him to try and reach his full potential in his home nation.

The wantaway Spurs player has never hidden his desire to return to Spain and if Spurs do in fact get a deal for Sarr over the line, he may just get his wish.
