Japhet Tanganga to find ‘total agreement’ with AC Milan as Tottenham insist on two key clauses
Tottenham and AC Milan officials will meet later this week to thrash out a loan deal for Japhet Tanganga with the option to buy, a report has claimed.
Spurs have made a raft of signings already this summer to bolster Antonio Conte’s team. And Djed Spence is the latest of those, the Middlesbrough full-back joining for £20million on Tuesday.
But that means Tottenham now want to balance their books and trim their squad with outgoings.
The likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Bryan Gil and Tanguy Ndombele could all leave Tottenham before the end of August.
Defender Tanganga could also depart, with Serie A winners Milan looking to sign the 23-year-old. In fact, Tanganga’s exit from Hotspur Way is more advanced than any of his team-mates’ exits, as Calciomercato now reports.
Milan and Spurs chiefs will meet ‘in the middle of the week’ in the hope of sealing the player’s move to Italy.
Both sides want to agree on an initial loan deal but are also pushing for an option to buy for Milan during the loan.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are insisting on a further buy-back clause. That would give Spurs some security over their sale, having an easy-to-reach option to bring him back.
Milan and Tottenham hope to find ‘total agreement’ for Tanganga, who could become a Rossoneri player ‘quickly’.
The centre-back, who can also play full-back, made his Premier League debut during Jose Mourinho’s Spurs reign.
Since then, though, injuries have held him back and he has never been able to truly prove his worth.
This summer, manager Conte has bolstered his defence with Clement Lenglet, Spence and Ivan Perisic. That means Tanganga would be better off leaving in the search for more game time.
Tanganga could emulate English counterparts
Tanganga will be looking to emulate fellow Englishmen Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham if his Milan move goes through.
Former Chelsea centre-back Tomori left Stamford Bridge last summer to move to Milan. He played a standout role in helping the club win Serie A, playing 31 of 38 games.
Tomori also got a taste of Champions League action, facing Liverpool in the group stages. If Tanganga joined, he would be able to settle alongside Tomori and also get his taste of title-chasing and Champions League football.
Tanganga will also no doubt have watched Tammy Abraham’s progress last season. The ex-Chelsea striker set the record for the highest number of goals scored by an Englishman in a single Serie A campaign.
Tanganga will no doubt feel he can settle as well as fellow Englishmen Tomori and Abraham.
The initial loan deal would allow both clubs to see how the defender gets on before then making a more permanent decision over the option to buy.
